I was in the Apple Store the day it arrived and I would have walked out with a 32GB model, and Pencil (and keyboard) had at least the Pencil been available, but it wasn't so I didn't. In the long run I doubt it impacts Apple''s bottom line and I'm certain the one I was going to buy was bought by someone else that didn't have that necessity.
Sorry, I worded that wrong...
Exactly, now you will wait longer to get the set.
I'm not really the iPad customer base as I much prefer my iPhone when on the go and my 15" MBP when sitting somewhere, which is why I carry my MBP with me most places, but I would having given this a go. That said, I'm guessing I won't buy ever buy it.
Yea, and when did the white iPhone 4 finally ship? It would be interesting to unearth all the storie behind those delays though. Maybe we could all learn something from those "failure".
Are you saying that the stylus is now vital for the function of the device?
How the **** do you come to that conclusion? I know how an IOS-based device works. I know how an iPad works. What I haven't experienced is how the Pencil works, hence my interest in it.
Because the lack of it directly affected your decision not to buy it.
That was an amazingly long delay. Did Jobs give any indication during his presentation that it would be delayed at all? If so, did he give a timeframe?
Neither Jobs or Ming-Chi Kuo said anything.
I don't recall anything official but it was something about the white glass coloring causing some type of lens flare on photos when using the camera. It took Apple engineers quite a while to resolve the problem.
The Apple case for iPad Pro does not include the front cover. Total price for front and back pieces is $138, a significant increase from the $79 iPad Air Smart Case. I guess it's just a coincidence that the Smart Keyboard happens to cost "only" $31 more than buying iPad Pro Case and Smart Cover separately?
I got mine. It's shut off twice while charging requiring a hard reset to turn on. Hope it works itself out. Hoping the pencil and keyboard arrive on time. 1-2 weeks.

I thought it was because they couldn't make the glass white enough with consistency which kept causing the delay.
Sorry for the reference, but that makes you the "poster child" for why Apple should be getting this out as a potential set.
Somewhere, somebody dropped the ball.
But this is common for Apple. If it was all available the same day it would have been atypical, so can we really say they are dropping the ball when they never held that ball in the first place?
The lack of pencil is pretty ridiculous considering how important it was to making this product stand out.
Car salesman... "Come over here and let me show you these new models we just got in today. These babies will sell quick. Wheels? oh, we'll have 'em in a few weeks. Sit down in this one and check out the new radio."

Common is right.
I know... they are just keeping us on the edge of our seat and giving us something to look forward to.

You're probably 100% correct. I'm probably confusing the iP5 purple lens flare issue with my previous comment........that I apparently just made up! " src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

Apple obviously has info that we do not, but I can't think of any solid reason for this stepping except that impulse buyers willing to pay over $1k for a new product that will decide not to buy it iare so few and far between that they make no difference to their bottom line. From a production standpoint, could these accessories be made at some 2nd- or 3rd-tier facility which is why it takes longer to ramp up after the announcement, even though the accessories are considerably less complex to build?
Personally, if they are going to step products, I wish they would do so by having a major product announcement and release for each season of the year. It's a bit of a gadget overload to have so much stuff dropped on us at one single event.

I would think at the production quality level of Apple, that even a 5th tier facility should be expected to produce. Since they introduced working models at the 10/9 event, they surely knew what production times and hiccups were going to be involved.

Quality of the product doesn't mean it can be made quickly. If they use a different tier facility it could simply take longer because they have considerably fewer people working on it.
The sales response to the iPad Pro seems to indicate a healthy interest in the higher end tablets then originally thought.
Although I find I have no interest in a MS Surface (of any kind) while wanting a iPad Pro with 128Gb, It may be interesting to see if the sales of one will positively affect the other... or if the Surface sales will further erode due to the iPad Pro.

From what I recall Steve Jobs was the reason for the delay because the shade of white wasn't perfect in the first production run. In general, launches have been smoother under Tim Cook. However, the Watch and MacBook rollouts left much to be desired. The iPad Pro seems to be supply constrained, as well.

In truth, there was little pressure to get the accessories into the stores ahead of the iPad Pro, so in some places they arrived together and in some places they didn't.
