Because it is inferior. That's it. Bye.
No flack because your "points" is non sequitur.
And yes, your another whose whining about a few bucks... about supposedly the same products.

In what way are they inferior? I get that the Apple Pencil might be better for artists but that doesn't make the Surface Pen a piece of junk

I'm just wondering why everything is so expensive. The Pencil is just a simple aluminium body with some sensors in the tip. I'm probably going to catch a lot of flack for this, but the Surface Pen has a 3-function button, Bluetooth connectivity and even an eraser and it's only $50 (the extra $10 is for the additional pen tips).
Same goes for the keyboard. You can get a Type Cover 4 which includes backlighting, a five-point glass trackpad and a fingerprint sensor for $10 less than the Smart Keyboard. I'm actually using a Type Cover 4 right now and it's fantastic, but from the reviews I've read the Smart Keyboard is for some reason sub-par

"It's just a simple … with some …" I guess you can write off anything with that kind of wording.

A diamond is just a simple arrangement of carbon atoms with some pressure applied so why are they more costly than a charcoal brickette?¡

That's a good question. Diamonds really aren't that special. They're not even the rarest gemstone. You can thank Marilyn Monroe for their exorbitant price

In any case, I was referring to the Apple Pencil's functionality. What makes it different from an old Palm stylus? It can detect tilt? It has much better accuracy? That's about it really

They are very different. Apple built this from the ground up, where MS just adopted the standard N-Trig pen and put a different cap on the end. Apple's also has a built-in battery, is lighter, and does a quick charge while plugged in to the iPad through the built-in connector. It also comes with an adapter to plug into your iPad's charge cable too. Is it worth $99? probably not to the penny, but it's sill a substantial piece of tech.

Well first off the Surface Pen's weight is deliberate to make it feel better in your hand.
Secondly, the Surface Pen uses a simple AAAA battery (you can get a pack of them for like $5 at Home Depot) and lasts 12 months, co pared to the Pencil's 12 hours
I'm not saying that the Pencil is worthless. I just think it costs a bit much for what it is

Well I'm not so sure about that. I think what Steve meant was that if you need a stylus to operate your...ahem...operating system then you've failed. I don't think he'd be opposed to using one as a method of artistic input

God gave us 10 styluses. Let's not invent another

So you actually believe Jobs was against the pencil, pen, and paint brush when you can use your fingers for drawing and painting?

Jobs was notoriously against things - until he wasn't. He also believed that the iPod Hi-Fi was going to change music.

Truth is, he was right. You shouldn't need a stylus to interact with the device. That doesn't mean jobs was all about finger painting over using brushes or pens for calligraphy.

It's still optional, just makes it a normal iPad without it. Which is why an entire class of people are upset that it's NOT available at launch because it's the whole reason we bought the new iPad, when without it my current iPad is just fine.

How are you getting all that from 'stylus' specifically one used for an electronic device?

    1) Marylyn Monroe, not De Beers?

    2) Not the rarest ? not rare, or not considerably more rare due than coal.

    3) So because a Palm stylus can detect tilt it makes Pencil the exact same thing? Show me the breakdown in R&D and components that brought you to this conclusion.

    4) You question if the accuracy is better but then your next statement implies that it is. Why does a steak dinner cost more than a #1 at McDonald's, especially when the McDonald's meal gets you more calories for a single meal, which gives you even more calories for your buck?

The question is how are you getting Jobs was against any sort of digital device to be used for drawing and painting, simply because he wanted the primary input for his iPhone and iPad to be a finger using a capacitance display, not a resistive touchscreen with small, desktop OS-type UI elements that require a pointed device in order to operate successfully?

    1. I don't know? It's not that important

    2. True, but not rare enough to warrant the ridiculous pricing

    3. I'm not sure if Palm styli can detect tilt. If it sounded like that's what I was saying I apologise.

    4. Again, I'm sorry if it sounded like I was questioning anything. Of course the Apple Pencil has greater accuracy than a simple stylus. But the fact remains that the Pencil is merely a tool for input and doesn't pack very much tech inside, and therefore (I believe) does not warrant the price tag of $100

Except he never said 'need'. You're injecting that word to fit your narrative.

We don't know if he was for, or against an electronic device being used for drawing, and/or painting.

My claim uses absolute statements, not by what people think he meant. How's that ridiculous?

Because Steve was notorious for lying to fit his immediate sales need even if it contrasted something we later knew he was passionate about. At the time he was trying to sell a touch interface in a world where people were used to having a stylus.

Here's a great article citing a few other times he mislead people in this manner.
