    Interesting angle about the thefts.
  • Reply 122 of 172
Bunge's article is a Yahoo! News article about the thefts being highly organized because looters apparently had keys to the vaults.

The End of Civilization is a more comprehensive view of the cultural devastation of the looting. (Salon.com

This article about the Iraq situation, from Robert Fisk in Baghdad is such distressing reading. Liberation? Sounds more like "Saddam Hussein, version 1.13"

    So is this one:

Oh lookie here...anyone wonder why Baghdad, a city of 5 million people, fell so easily?

    http://www.informationclearinghouse....rticle2958.htm

Look at the person moving in next door....he might just be an ex Republican Guard soldier....

The Shi'ites...who should have been dancing and cheering and waving US flags, if you were to believe the admin....have taken to the streets ....3000 in Mosul, 20000 in Baghdad, 30000 in Basra, 40000 in Karbala, and 60000 in Nasiriya, angrily demonstrating and demanding that the U.S. get out, now.

    and...

    http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...=540&ncid=1480

This is turning quickly into the most godwawful mess. And the war only started (in earnest) not even a month back.

Now the US is rehiring Saddam's old police force thugs.

    http://www.cbc.ca/stories/2003/04/17/iraq_police030417

and now we are shooting to kill protesters in Mosul:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/2951789.stm

And alowing the sacking, asron and looting of Iraq's cities to continue:

    http://www.oregonlive.com/letters/or...1155177930.xml

and Saddam....perhaps not quite the enemy he's been made out to be?

    http://www.freep.com/news/nw/iraq/where17_20030417.htm

To all the pro-war folk out there, believing in the Bush admin lying to the world about good intent, democracy and liberation in Iraq and how the US would be welcomed....EAT CROW!

"some protest the hiring of the police"

    ....oh dear

    'fired after being fired upon"

    ....gracious!

    "arab rumour mill..."

    ...do tell

on the "allowing" of looting, I think the police "allowed" South Central to be burned for several days when a certain house-ramming individual's verdict didn't sit well with certain people.

Suppose I linked to an Andrew Sullivan article at Salon...

or how about how Salon supported the war based on humanitarian reasons?

Yeah, groverat, I think you're talking shit on this one.

Thanks, but there's none left after you guys have been pigging out on it for the past few weeks. We're in the midst of a crow famine, it seems.

Duplicate post. Just another looting article (no registration required).

Were the antiquities stolen before the looting?

Salon runs Andrew Sullivan articles that aren't just about exploiting him for being a pro-homosexual conservative? Holy crap, I'll happily eat some crow.

As far as the liberation being invalid because Robert Fisk throws yet another shitfit and we shot some civlians, what a joke.

American archeological experts resign over looting.

"It was a pre-emptive war, and the lack of planning for looting is inexcusable."

Wow! it is soo important to you guys that the US looks bad that there is this obsession on looting.

Do you know that the museaum was an inside job? they had keys to the safe. and had planned the robbery.

Iraq is 90% unemployed and you expect them to not loot

Now that all of the anti war doom and gloom predictions did not come to pass. you shift to being critical on the US ability to govern.

    What doom and gloom predictions?

We're not being critical of the US, the news reports from people in Iraq are critical.

[clears tears from eyes] Now people are going to refute the D & G ever existed in the first place, prior to the war! Now I've seen it all!... I think this one is worthy to go into the very thick, thick book titled "Never take an anti-war person's comment at face value, Never"

No silly, it's just the conservatives around here consistently throw out blanket arguments and pretend like they apply to everyone that opposes their view.

It's the beloved straw man argument again. And again. And again. There is no valid point, so make one up.

If Hassan was predicting doom and gloom, show us where. Then show us how he was wrong. Then show us how now he's shifted his focus from D&G to looting.

But that's impossible because the original accusation was completely fabricated in the first place.
