Oh come all you liberal types. The first thing you would do if you had a million dollars is give $386,000 to the federal government. Then you get to move on to your respective state income tax. Don't forget Social Security up to the means tested limit...

Thinking only of yourselves again?!? You know the little guy who didn't get the lightening strike you did deserves his/her fair share first.

You might have about $500k or so left to play around with...but don't buy any big ticket items or I'm making sure you pay a luxury tax. Don't buy any houses either or else you've got property tax.......

Most of all, make sure you smile while doing all this. When I wave my child tax credits under your nose, I want you to smile about the money you gave me. If you don't smile, well then you are a heartless pig who doesn't realize how lucky they have it.

Hey trumptman, who has more cred in talking about taxes and gov't spending - liberals or conservatives?

I would live like a king for the rest of my life, zooming all over the world to my private islands, mansions, and yachts in a gold plated gulfstream jet with my face carved in platinum on each wing.

If I couldn't make it stretch that far I'd probably do the same as most others here. Pay off college loans, make a downpayment on property that could provide some rental income. Gifts for family and friends and maybe some nice bits of studio gear I've had my eye on for me.

So I get the mil when I hit 1,000 posts, yeah?

Ding, ding, ding, ding... give that person a prize.

I'm just being an ass. So many people on here go on and on about the "rich" being mostly evil and all. Then you see most of the replies and it is "pay off all my old spending" (credit cards, car loans, etc.) and then do more spending.

    No charities, no helping others.....

I'm not sour, sarcastic, but not sour.

Hmm, if I had . . . ONE MEEELION DOLLARS Living in the US I would:

    1) Pay off debt:

    16K my undergraduate loans

    12K sister's undergrad loans

    100K Girlfriend's law school

40K last of Parent's Mortgage on their house

    2) Set aside:

50K for further graduate education for myself

    100K for kids education someday

150K to start a retirement account for myself

80K for health insurance for family over 25 years

    That leaves: 1000K-548K = 452K

[Notice that except for my parent's mortgage, these expenses would be free under a European social welfare system and I wouldn't have to use up half of my money to guarantee that my family would be healthy, educated and not destitute in old age. A nice side effect would be that people who don't have one meelion dollars don't have to worry about that either. . . neat how that works, huh? Putting people in huge debt right out of the starting gate of life is the US method for scaring/forcing them away from dedicating their time to changing the world.]

Then I would pay taxes, say 40% of original 1000K. That leaves say 50K for:

    1) Kickass Video Camera: Top of the line DV with all the fixin's and sound equipment $5K

    2) dual G5 2.5 Ghz with the biggest damn display Apple makes at the time (as long as it is aluminum look ) & assorted fixin's 5K

    3) a 15' G5 PB the minute they come out 3K

    4) a car that won't break down all the time 10K

    5) Great gifts for friends 3K

    6) Great vacation (finally!) 4K

Above stuff adds up to 30K

Finally, I would donate 10K to a local community group helping the homeless and would donate 10K to local organizers as seed money to support anti-war / anti-Bush events and organizing.

If I lived in Europe I would pay 70% taxes immediately, leaving me with 300K to

    1) Pay off my parent's house, (say costs 140K instead of 40K in Europe)

    2) 50K contingency money for kids etc. . .

    3) Selfish stuff - computers, car, camera, vacation listed above. . . . 40K ("stuff" costs more in Europe)

Leaving me with 70K to donate around . . . instead of beating Bush I would focus on environmental/artistic philanthropy I think.

    Peace,
