Just keep one of these balled up in your bag.

Doubt it. I think that is why the rushed to get them out last Friday.

I am sure it will fit into the headphone adapter, but you will have to turn it perpendicular to the iPod because of the firewire plug in on the iTrip. Guess I will have to return mine.

so you have to buy the cable seperately?

Regardless of which, it's just *another* cable to have to carry/remember/lose...

    So much for simplifying life...

What? You had to carry a FW cable before... now the cable you carry will have a different end on it. Pain in the ass to buy it I guess, but it's no more "difficult" than carrying the old FW cable.

They should have had the connector going into the base from the computer the same as the connector going into the iPod... then you'd just take the cable from your dock and go. Guess they wouldn't get another $19 from us that way though.

That Belkin thing is nowhere near as elegant and cool as the iTrip

but firewire cables have finally become commonplace. Nearly everyone I know has at least one, and if I turn up anywhere I can be pretty certain there'll be a cable I can connect my drive with.

So right now I don't have to carry a cable with me.

yeah, apple FINALLY got the new specs up for the ipod (they had the old specs there for a while, which was part of the confusion), so i see that the "dock" is really just a nice right-angle connector between cable and ipod.

thing is, if i should lose my ipod connector, i can go to work and scrounge up a new cable, or order a new cable from eleventeen other suppliers. with this new one, i've got to go through apple. well, at least for now...

i know regular consumers might not give a rat's ass about this, but it bugs me like a picture askew. maybe they had to change it to make the unit even thinner? maybe i am just being too picky. hell, i've been called worse.

Apple stole my idea!!! Well, probably not. The On-theGo playlist creation feature is pretty neat. I suggested this in a thread a few months back...maybe. Steve just gave a great interview on CNN btw. The anchors were all saying they wanted to get an iPod now. Anyway, I think Apple really has their head in the right place. The new iPod looks awesome. I was hesitant at first but once I saw the features (backlit buttons, touch-sensitive, dock, and IT'S SO FRIGGIN THIN!!!) I was in love with it all over again. My 20GB has been locking up a lot lately and holds a short charge. Luckily I have the 2 year warranty from CompUSA so I am gonna go there next week and get the new 30 GB as a replacement.

the tech specs seem to note a change in max volume too.

there were some stories about France recalling the 1st generation iPods because French law wouldn't permit any portable music device to output more than 100dB (and the original models put out 104dB or so), so they actually crippled some of the early units to get them under 100dB for sale in France.

looks like the new models have been limited to 60W output.

your volume may vary. can anyone confirm this drop?

edit: my bad... mixing output Wattage with decibels. carry on

The output Wattage hasn't changed at all.

You're mixing up decibels and Watts.

Touch buttons are backlit. Is the screen larger or the same size? (I do believe it is brighter when lit).

no, that isn't "changey color plastic"

it's an intentionally dark image so you can see the backlight in action.

    no color changing, yet...

This is weird - Fortune.com has an image of a black version of the new iPod.

Anyone know what that might be?
