That's the thing from the French Web site. Already under discussion <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002525&p=8"; target="_blank">here (although the thread title is a tad outdated by this point).

yeah you are right I saw that thread but it is on another topic(or three) and I thought no one is going to see it there so here it gets its own. If the Mods think it is redundant then they can lock it. I just think that no one ever sees a lot of the info b/c it is buried in a bunch of nonsense in threads on other topics. Oh well, maybe not, but I know I miss a lot of stuff, and it is not like people are going to randomly search for 19 inch monitor threads in the search feature when they dont even know one may exist. hopefully the Mod wannabes don't burn me at the stake for posting a link more than once.

No offence, but a 19" monitor on the imac looks kinda wierd....

but i do hope it turns out nice. Playing games or watching movies would be great with a bigger monitor!

The bigger the better, even for iMacs. However, I this sounds like a display only proposal.

19" iMac? Where is this mentioned?

I thought the 19" was a stand alone LCD? (I can't believe that iMac swing-arm could reliably hold a much bigger monitor.)

    [quote] Apple 19" LCD:

    - 19" LCD

    - 1600x1024

    - Final product line 17", 19" and 23"

    - Not shipping until December

There is no mention of an iMac. This rumor is talking about a new display.

A STEREOSCOPIC DISPLAY is the illusion of three-dimensionality created by using binocular cues of depth, achieved by presenting a slightly different view of a scene to each eye of the viewer so createing a 3d image.

    WOO HOO!!!!!! A 19" LCD!!!!

Sorry for the yelling, but I've been waiting for Apple to release a 19" LCD for over a year now!!! My 17" AppleVision is just starting to show some wear, and daddy wants to upgrade!!! WOO HOO!!! Very very very excited!!

Also, I assume 1600x1024 means wide aspect ratio?

What I'm most interested about in this "rumor" is that there is no mention of the 22" Cinema Display. Any confirmation that it's been discontinued?

    Bring it on! WOO HOO!!!

And an interesting thing to have if you're going after the life sciences market or any other visualisation-intensive vertical market.

I believe that the latest 3-D display technology is using 2 LCD's stacked on top of each other to achieve 3-D without the use of glasses (polerized or R/B).

    Huh?

I wonder what type of video card it would take to push a stereoscopic display pushing a DoomIII type game in 3d. That card might make a geforce 4 ti look like a little bitch. I think stereoscopic displays are a few years from the main stream but they are a bad ass technology.

I assume these types of monitors require glasses?

Actually, they don't. That's the cool part.

AirSluf posted an unflattering appraisal of the picture quality of one of the prototypes he saw a while back. Dobtless they're refined them since, but I'd be surprised if they were good enough for CAD or color-correction work right out of the starting gate.

I know we kinda went there and then gave up, but don't glasses really have the potential to make much more cost effective 3-d display devices? Eventually they could be so small they'd look no bigger than a bulky pair of wrap around sunglasses, probably going opaque or semi-transparent at a touch and provide the illusion of a gigantic display just a few feet from your eyes or of total emersion in a 3-d world. Intelligent control would ideally let the device read your eye movements to determine when you wanted to look away and size/move the display image accordingly.

    Probably a long way off...

"I think stereoscopic displays are a few years from the main stream"

Nope much sooner than that but that doesn't mean they will be popular...im more looking forward to OLED screens...the pics of handhelds based on them that I have seens were beautifual and they are thinner and require less energy and will eventually be cheaper to make...we should start seeing cellphones and pda's with them within the next few months...but monitors and tv's are much farther out

There is also a version that is flexible..yep movies on yout tshirt are coming pretty soon...that is not a joke by the way...I don't know if anyone here saw the movie Blade runner..but the director had a vision of the future (and this was made over 20 years ago) about advertisements being everywhere and now with all this new technoly like OLED screens, and that new audio technology that focuses sound directly at the user and no one else...that world looks like its going to exist pretty soon...

Its funny how now we are all begging for a couple of more inches of space on our flat screen when tshirts and paint on walls itself will be displays in the not so distant future...

Now where is my F'n flying car...i don't understand all these geeks...yeh cure cancer...make hydrogen a valid fuel source an all that...but all we really want is our F'n flying car...SJ you listening? quit with this cutesy iMac shit and give me my damn flying car!
