Confirmed, as of 1:56 AM: CNET reports that Akamai was hacked at 10:38 PM; Akamai rep states they will "stop at nothing" to find and punish the perpetrator.

Nah, I'm just f*cking with you. Enjoy your Mac bliss, looking forward to new commercials of the Pentium guy with a hotfoot.

The cease and desist order must have gone out already. MacRumors report of this now has had the screenshot removed and the report itself severely edited.

This is definately the real deal and Apple probably did it on purpose just to make the entire Mac faithful splooge themselves for the next few days to come...Steve's stock goes up, so does ours and the world is a better place!

    yes

i just went to MACRUMOURS and it was removed.

now we all know that certain "other" rumour sites (spymac) have engaged in this deception to make their site seem more authentic.

but i dont think MACRUMOURS would do such a thing and if that is true then the posted specs are REAL!!!!!!!!!!!

    YES THERE IS A GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can Apple send a C&D for info that they posted to their own website?

"optical audio" come on - its Apple!!!!

be prepared to be let down!!

. . .(hopin Im wrong though)

Apple historically was well ahead of wintel on max RAM. HP just talked about an Opteron machine with max 1GB RAM. It's a 64 bit chip you wankers! >4GB RAM is half the point!

Optical audio has been mentioned by moki, so take it as confirmed.

I guess that confirms it's likely to be genuine. A hacked Akamai image or made up informational could have no legal standing for infringement of Apple's proprietary information.

    Only rumor left now:

What will it look like and when will it be available?

I would also have to say that the imacs look fairly weak now, at least at current prices (assuming these babies don't start at 2k). Either they get a drastic price cut, or they get bumped to the MDD processor specs soon.

I HATE YOU. Seriously, though, CNET does already have an article about it: http://news.com.com/2100-1042_3-1019444.html?tag=fd_top

I recall moki calling TOSLINK some time ago. I like this a lot. If I can find a place to hide another computer (from my wife) in my tiny corner, I'll even pay the 16% VAT in Euro (I get paid $USD) here in Germany to get one of these.

plus there is no real downside to this release...it makes us happy, jumps apples stock and yet still keeps keen interest in WWDC since we haven't see the tower yet, haven't seen it work nor its speed number and we haven't seen the monitors that will go with it...win win for apple, win win for us...

    Exactly!

They don't have a leg to stand on. They didn't send a cease and desist I bet. I bet they just asked Arn to take it down. Maybe they will give him a break later on for his cooperation.

We have the specs but don't have the case.

I am not so sure that it is an error ...

You've got to be kidding. Steve Jobs orders a graphic called "powermac.gif" for the G4 to be replaced with a graphic called" powermac.gif' with the G5 specs at the online Apple Store on Friday midnight.... to build a little extra attention over the weekend? Why would this kind of attention ("Apple inadvertently leaks G5 specs" kind of attenion) before Monday be better than announcing the G5 on Monday, w/o leak?

C'mon. Think it through. This was a mistake, and certain people at Apple are undoubtedly in a complete panic / spin cycle right now.

It's really hopeless to try to contain it, though. You can try to hold down pictures for a time, but not ten lines of information.

Across the ocean blue, me and you

    We're dancing in the street

They probably have no real legal basis, but that doesn't mean they won't try... and I figured I'd save 'em a phone call (and trust me, phone calls are being made, even at this hour).
