Well, I sent my 20 gig in for repair last week to Apple Canada.
(Play button was flaky, and battery life was max 5 hours - and this unit was only 1 month old!)
A replacement unit was ordered on the 21st, and since it hadn't shipped as of this morning I gave them a call.
Apple Canada has *zero* stock of 20 gig iPods, and no ETA for delivery of them.
That may be a good sign of an upcoming release, but it also means that I'm likely to be without my iPod for quite some time. Which p*sses me off, considering that I was told that the turnaround time for the repair/replacement would be 5-7 days. Grrr.
When will Apple release the 20gb iPod!? A smaller 5gb version would be nice to round out that single 10gb one they make too. I'd also like to see that wheel go from a spinning out of control super plate to something like a touch pad wheel. I'm really getting sick of the color, too, maybe something in white or like that "snow" color that Dell uses for their eMacs (omg iMac ripoff!) would be nice. I'd also like it to do more than just keep address and calendar information. I mean, 10 gbs of addresses and phone numbers? The least it could do is play music... And I'd really like to see a stand made that will stand my iPod up.
Well, I'm definitely not going to wait until after March 21st for my iPod (windows version, sorry guys) to be replaced by Apple.
Heck, I'm supposed to be on the other side of the word, laying on the Sunshine Coast of Australia *listening* to my ipod at that point in time.
So who do I start calling at Apple Canada to raise a bit of hell?
I should have known there would be problems when it took them 8 days to send a shipping box via overnight courier. And after calling the 4th day in, to request another box, what happens? Two shipping boxes show up on the same day. Anyone want an iPod shipping box?
Now, am I being unreasonable to expect that my expensive toy should have been replaced in the time period they quoted when I first called to order the repair? This is customer service at it's worst.
Any Apple Canada employees who want to write to me off-forum can do so to:
A 5 gig iPod is more than I would ever need.

I can see how most people only need 5 gigs, but I have over 10 gigs and would rather have all of my music with me. 20 gigs would last me a long long time.
Oh my god! Kormac76, where are you? As much as I doubt MacWhispers, I truly believe that we will see at least one entirely new digital lifestyle device before the end of the summer. My hunch, however, is that it will be smaller than what MacWhispers predicts.
I honestly hope that they'll release the iFrame : a small, wireless display that autosyncs with your iPhoto library. Hang it on the wall like a picture frame, and it will swap photo's at customiseable times. Using a few simple buttons, you can set theme & subdirectory, or manually advance photos to show off family pics.

It would be a HIT. I'd buy one right away, and all folks with kids or grandkids would rush at it. I know my parents (3 grandkids) would be delighted : my mum has a digital camera, but is always complaining that she has to bring everyone behind the mac to show her pics. Sitting in the couch with a wireless tablet would be her dream !
So is this thing finally getting updated tomorrow or what?! The "something fishy" is now really starting to smell strong.

Sorry, but if the iPod is coming out in mid March....

Can you say, CeBIT?

Apple really suck sometimes.
I asked the rep what would happen if the lack of stock meant that a 'new' iPod would be coming out.
She said, 'Well, you'd have to go and buy one since we don't offer upgrades on iPods'.
I countered, 'Well, wouldn't you just replace my old 20 gig iPod with a 20 gig model of the 'new' iPod?'
She repeated, 'We don't offer upgrades on the iPod'
So, if this is in fact the case, what am I to expect? Sounds a bit ridiculous to me, and I assume that she was talking out of her *ss.
How long is reasonable to wait for a replacement unit before I start climbing the chain of support people?

Apparently they're making plastics right now.
