Well, will the new iPod comes with FW800 port? If the iPod is still a MP3 player in the long run, FW400 is fast enough. Of course, it is nice to see Apple put some new things in it besides just up the storage size. I own the 10GB w/remote model and happy about it.
Firewire 400 fast enough? Way more than fast enough. The drive in the iPod, at maximum theoretical data throughput, could not fill Firewire 400's minimum throughput. And to make the an iPod with Firewire 800 even more unlikely, the iMac, Apple's self-proclaimed "digital hub" isn't equipped with FW 800. It would look kind of strange to have a lifestyle device, marketed for for consumers, to be compatible only with the pro line up. The iPod isn't exactly a pro device, now is it? A Powerpod? An iPod Extreme? I highly doubt that there will be a pro iPod. The highest update that I can imagine, other than capacity, is being able to record, and, maybe listen to FM. We'll see later today...or on Tuesday...or thursday...or next saturday...
Seems to me Apple will add FW 800 to the iPod unless they don't plan on putting 800 on their low-end macs, just to keep the plugs compatible through their devices if nothing else.

does anyone know the hardware component price difference between the two standards?
Not sure, but FW800 is cheaper supposedly...

anything to lower prices yet more can't be a bad thing. having the 'potential' if not the ability to interface at those data rates can't be a bad thing either.
i got the impression that the 'adapter' was just a cable with two different plugs at each end.
am i mis-informed on that? if not, why not throw the 800's in there?
Rendevouz is a bit delusional and confused, sir.
Speaking of delusional, an anonymous source speaks of the classic "videopod lifestyle device with full-color touchscreen display" at this site. It is to be raleased on Tuesday. (Yeah, right. Maybe on the Tuesday that Hell freezes over )
Looks like next Tuesday... There has to be some change, other than capacity, when it's updated, or I will throw a fit. What happened to that"videopod with FW 800 and bluetooth and Airport Extreme and a big fat G4" idea?
