I haven't read this whole post, so I am not sure if someone has mentioned this yet, but it is no longer possible to purchase a 5 gig ipod at the Apple online store. When you get to the ipod purchase page, all three versions are on display, but the "mac" and "windows" options are no longer next to the 5 gig ipod - making it impossible to select this model for purchase (and they're still next to the 10 and 20 gig versions). Sorry if this might be repeat info...but thought I'd post just in case.

MOSR the Hogwashery (TM) is reporting on the iPod. That means it can't be happening any time soon. Meader does (inhale) mention that there (snort) is no supply in the (inject) retail channel, so perhaps he has been reading this thread.

Oh, com'on, Mandricard. Have you forgotten that hope springs eternal? I'm in no hurry for updates (I haven't used a Walkman in 15+ years), but I am strongly hoping for updates on your behalf. So don't despair!

Have just been told that Apple Distributors in OZ have been told to take the 5Gb iPod off their product lists and stop advertising the model.
Did not receive any response from application. It is possible that the application does not exist, or that the requested url is incorrect.
Am I turning into a conspiracy theorist like the rest of you? or is it just something and nothing?
Why do I have to wait all day for an announcement it's Tuesday already here so just tell me now Apple.
Pulling for you mandricard.
Cheers.
Please be a new iPod.
Here's hoping Mandricad

ITS been said all the way on page one. read.
DAMN IT WHERE ARE THE IPODS!
<strong>It's definitely the Canadian catalog. Maple Leafs on the front cover and all.
Maybe they did make a mistake and put in the US prices, but why the "NEW!" in red letters before all three model specs?
Weird. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" /> </strong><hr></blockquote>
They always put new. Apple had NEW IMACS on the imac webpage yesterday with the 800mhz modles.

<strong>Well, no new Pods, bummer. Wanted a back-up solution, guess I'll get a FW drive instead and keep my old 5 Gig iPlod.</strong><hr></blockquote>
Just wait a week...it'll come. do you really want to carry around an ugly firewire drive and an ipod?
It will come ipod update is well over due...
<img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[oyvey]" />
Still no CompUSA's within 50 miles with 10gb iPods in stock. However, the local Apple Store now has them in stock...
Perhaps it is simply a drive-size bump with price reductions as some sites are saying (with a possible software update)...
I suppose one more week will not kill me, though after that, I take the plunge.

The plot thickens and were no nearer to knowing.
Have ordered one from JohnLewis.com cos I can return it upto 28 days from delivery.
That should carry me into March with the hope of an update or price drop.
same price points?
You think maybe a 5 gig at 299 or 10 gigg for 249 and 20 30 40 for current rpice points?
I think a sub 200 ipod would sell like hotcakes I wonder if apple sees it that way...
My guess is that the 10gb will be at $299, the 20 at $429, and a 40 at $529.
No features will be added to the 10, but the 20 and 40 will see something funky.
But this is all a hunch.
Hoping against hope,
