its all over the net, even on general non-apple sites. so i asked myself: what would blow me away? im thinking a buyout? merger? the apple financial boards think its going to be a buyout of another company. who knows.
i just cant belive that NOTHINGS leaked out yet! heck when the firewire imac's were about to come out wasen't there a dutch or german site that had pics of it the week before? now nothing!
glad to see pscates, bodhi, fran, etc are all still here. and yes i finally did get my mac (the 500 mhz imac) but took it back in mid dec. cause i really need a powermac! (os x.1 ran pretty good on that i cant imagine a souped-up double-proc g4 or g5!) lets hope we can see a new duel powermac at at least 1 gig.
Man, this bit of marketing foreplay has even dragged me through the re-registration process here at AI. So I'm back too.
Like I said, this is marketing foreplay par excellence. I'm sitting here typing on my 600mhz iBook (yah, I finally went mobile!) wondering if there's a baby brother in the works for this little guy. Or a slew of digital devices.
Or a consumer-style .NET kind of iniative from Apple. Know-whut-I-mean-Vern? Maybe iTools gets busy and gains a richer sotware interface for these potential devices. NOT very exciting to describe, but handy to use. Definitely something you don't pimp on your webpage.
My bet's on funky new HW.
My RDF dampers are working VERY well. I'll be unable to view anything until well into Monday evening and have already bookmarked the streaming site in hopes that the replay will be available by that time....but if memory serves it usually takes a few days before they put up a replay on the web.
Any way you look at it, this is a hoot.
Especially if my stock is enriched by this little stunt!
1. Isn't a dodecahedron a 3D figure with 20 sides? 18 sides would be less than beyond.

do·dec·a·he·dron: A polyhedron with 12 faces.

what makes you so sure it's lee clow's campaign? as it turns out, think different was written by one of my best friends and i ain't that close to lee clow. haha.
Something big is coming, and I feel that it is going to be different than we are thinking here. I cannot wait!!
And for those who are saying (hopefully jokingly) that the webmaster made the changes and then password protected the pages. Apple could pull the site and have it back with a backup in less than 30 minutes. If the backup were ready then even less time. They mean it to be there, this is going to be big...
Now assuming the G5 is a 64 bit chip, most people tend to agree that being 64 bits wouldn't boost the speed in and of itself (except for a few specific math operations or accessing over 4 GB of RAM).
What if the G5 is a multi-core chip that can split a 64 bit chunk into two 32 bit processor commands and have each core work on one 32 bit command? This would obviously only work on legacy apps (or apps that weren't specifically written to take advantage of the 64 bit data path).

I just have seen him talk endlessly about that campaign. Perhaps he is the Principal-in-Charge so to speak? I don't mean he designed it himself or anything.

Not impossible, no, just pointless. This way you lose the 64 bitness, and bump up the complexity of the chip enormously. Modern cores can already issue several instructions at once, splitting them across two processors rather than across execution units in a single processor would actually be more difficult and slower.
Although, putting two cores on a single chip is definitely a benefit, look t the Power4 chip from IBM.
Fran, it would have to cost less than $200 extra otherwise everybody would just buy standalone GameCubes.
GameCube game compatibility is not feasible. End of story. You have to consider that the graphics in the thing are neither nVidia OR ATi really...The Flipper is primarily an ArtX (defunct) design with insight from Nintendo and ATi.
I'm hoping Apple comes out with Star Trek style replicators.

haha. no offense taken. lee clow is a genius and one of the most influential people in our business over the past two decades. he's the worldwide creative director of tbwa/chiat/day and was certainly at the center of the whole "think different" campaign. just thought i'd give my buddy a plug while i was here. heheh.

I think Apple will get sued by AOL if they start up their own internet company. Apple signed an 'exclusive deal' with AOL to make eWorld back in the early 1990s. I think I read that this contract included a clause which stated that Apple would not compete with them head on in the internet business.

Such contracts tend to only live as long as said services do as well.
When eWorld went away, so would any such contract, if Apple's lawyers have any brains on they shoulders.
On the other hand... there's noooooo margin in playing ISP, and no other incentive for Apple to do so, either.
Apple is interested in helping people create and deliver digital content, and in helping other people enjoy this digital content... but I see no hint that Apple is at all interested in actually being the conduit for it all.

where's dorsal?
Dorsal is apparently an imposter
Dorsal M is s'posed to be real as verified by the MODS
He doesn't post alot though
2. Fran, excellent line! "You guys can take a joke, right?"

4. How about a Sony Aibo wannabe? Here's your new pet. We named him "Mac."

I really hope that Steve will not let us down, especially after all this hype..
A lot of people here are praying to get a G5, the expectation for this new CPU is as high as for the new Flat panel Imac.
So when they are saying that the stuff coming is beyond the rumors they'd better introduce a New G5!!!

Exactly. This is what Nintendo wants, so I doubt we'll see any Nintendo-Apple partnership.

Doesnt nintendo LOSE money on GCs?
And if apple provided increased FUNCTIONALITY over the stand-alone GC people would pay for it. But I don't think it will happen.
Anyone know that apple/nintendo site that speculates on a merger between the two? And an Apple-branded GC
Good site, but it is old...

Just a question to help the rampant rumor mongering:
When is Apple's contract with MS up? (the one about not making any new browsers and bundling IE with the OS)
Cyberdog X anyone?
