Apple may tone down their teasers over the next few days. I already think that they've let the hype get way out of hand. I guess it's up to them though.
I meant that in a good way. The Newton was a great product way ahead of it's time and I was wondering if maybe Apple is hinting they have achieved another advancement before it's time.
My bet is that the Apple hype is for all of the product spec bumps as well as more iDevices and iApps that they will unveil all in one show. There will be new hardware no doubt, I think it is a combo of everything that will make this MW a revolutionary step in the progression of the PC.
1.) Broke the gigahertz barrier with Power Mac G4s
2.) Introduced a new LCD iMac
3.) Introduced a new iBook
4.) Introduced a new iPod like device
5.) Ramped up current iApps
and 'that was it'?
I think that's pretty good for an expo. A completely different iMac, iBook, and new Power Macs, as well as a new device and new iApps sounds like a busy show!
<strong>Anyone else wondering what Apple's next headline is going to be as much as they were last night?</strong><hr></blockquote>
HEHE, it looks like everyone got extrememly pessimistic all at once. Kinda funny really, they are only rumors...
I doubt everyone is as nearly rabid as they were yesterday at this time about MWSF (and Apple's next slogan)... Too bad, it's not like the show's plans changed or anything...

Depends. If that Powermac tops out at 1 GHz, the LCD iMac costs $1800, the new iBook gets a price increase to match the Imac's new price, the new iPod device costs only a few hundred less than an iBook....I'd be awfully pissed. But I would get over it.
It hit me with a thud this morning. Why was last night's tag line so lame? Because all this time Apple has just been hyping the *expo* as any responsible corporate sponsor should. This just happened to be the first tag line that wasn't easy to misinterpret as a clue about *some spectacular expo announcement*. I hate it, but all the tag lines make as much sense if you interpret them as garden variety marketing hype appropriate to any big event...
"It's like a backstage pass to the future." -- sure, every MW expo is! You see a lot of new stuff before it's released!
"Beyond the rumor sites. Way beyond" -- well, actually attending an expo is way beyond reading rumors on the web.
"Count the days...count the minutes.. count on being blown away" -- any event this big is designed to be anticipated and to blow people away, just by the sheer scale of it.
"This is big. Even by our standards" -- well I don't know about that one...I hope I'm wrong about this...
LOL... I think that you could write several psychology papers simply by monitoring the pre-macworld buzz and speculation. It's interesting how you see waves of both optimism, pessimism, and realism..

How many people would be mad if Apple:
1.) Broke the gigahertz barrier with Power Mac G4s
2.) Introduced a new LCD iMac
3.) Introduced a new iBook
4.) Introduced a new iPod like device

the best I can come up with is something along the lines of
"amazement is an understatement"
its not as blunt as the beyond the rumor site one
but not as shallow as the backstage pass one, and it doesn't give anything away
"Smile like you've never smiled before"
or
"Cheer up you miserable Bastards at AI"
<strong>"Smile like you've never smiled before"</strong><hr></blockquote>
allusion to iPhoto??
-Paul
the iWalk thread has taken the lead.
You know, if Apple had released another juicy slogan today this thread would easily have been doubled in size...
Perhaps it will happen tonight?

<strong>A backstage pass to the future?
You get to see the future at a Macworld? What are they smoking????</strong><hr></blockquote>
A backstage pass
gets you there fast...
Faster than before and by a different path. Geddit? <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

I agree with Fran, I'd be psyched if the above was the outcome of MWSF 2002. (Especially if that iPod-like device is a PDA

Why all of this excitement over a PDA?
I want one that reads my handwriting.
I want one that has a slightly bigger screen than my palm so i can feel comfortable using it as a notepad.
I want one that looks cool.
I want one that has more features than what Palm can give me...
Because I want one that is made as well as Apple can make one.
I can go on and on...
