I have a lot of experience from working hard long years on slashdot trolling. At least it wasn't linked to <a href="http://goatse.cx" target="_blank">www.astronomy.com</a>
It was my undersanding that they tried internally and never got it to work right... So they failed and just scrapped it (until now?). No?

It worked, they just didn't release it due to management changes and focusing the whole company on the transition to PowerPC, rather than a bunch of other side projects going on at the time.
"To boldly go where no PC has gone before"</strong><hr></blockquote>
Well, seems that you're looking at a different apple.com page. The one that we're talking about had had this slogan on it for about 14 hours now... <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />
Because the webmaster has sniffed around in AI forums? <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />
And they "did" it before. When it read "Count the days. Count the minutes. Count on being blown away." you could see the alternative text (the one that is shown before the picture has loaded, as a replacement) was "Count the days. Count the hours. Count on being blown away".
<strong>Think of a place where people would never put a computer. And I don't mean your kitchen or bathroom. THAT'S been done already.</strong><hr></blockquote>

<strong>Apple switched back to where no PC has gone before, maybe they were doing that link to show what was being said.</strong><hr></blockquote>

<a href="http://fury.com/clippings/apple.html" target="_blank">http://fury.com/clippings/apple.html</a>
The link just had the name "apple.com". But I could also make the link "Christ4all" and link it to Church of Satan.
So, let's see... well...
2 days, 19 hours and 36 minutes. Oh my.
2 days to Macworld San Francisco.
No drinks suggested. You're gonna spill it.
