...in a revamped case design, I'll eat my hat.]

Hey , someone should list all those phrases that have been posted in recent days. I guess we'd see a lot of hat-eating, car-washing and the likes after Jan. 7th
In an early TNG episode, the one with the Traveler, they went far beyond Warp 10.
And yeah, Q smacked them around the galaxy at ultra-high warp speeds as well.
About Apple and Macs:
Lust factor 10 can only mean speed. If the last slogan suggested a portable, handheld computer (to boldly go where no PC has gone before), then the current slogan is something different.
Full speed ahead, lust factor 10.
Lust factor 10:
Now for the pessimistic view:
this has nothing to do with speed. It only means that us consumers are supposed to "lust" after this new product. it will be sexy like the Titanium. It will inspire lust. A handheld computer could do this. A new LCD iMac could do this.
Apple could fulfill the promise of "Full Speed Ahead: Lust Factor Ten" without a single speed bump or CPU change.
Basically we are back where we started with no clues about new products from any of the www.apple.com teasers.
When Apple was about to take its servers down last week (they took down the store too), I was able to poke around the akamai servers where the pictures are stored.
The images were NOT there then. They seemed to appear at midnight and not before.
Now it seems that Akamai's servers are locked down again, so maybe the images are there (at least 'one day') is there. I think the images were put up yesterday so the web designers can take the weekend off. Besides, they've probably been working overtime making the new Power Mac website, iMac website, iBook website, and One More Thing ? website.
I would suggest that "Where no PC has gone before" and "Full speed ahead" are signs that Apple is finally going to go dual or quad CPU in the PM line and advertize them as a single speed rating - like they should be doing to counter the lack of high Mhz or Ghz in the PPC chip.
Maybe someone was playing with his RDF Phazer. He finally just couldn't resist turning it up to 'Stun' and got hit with a little friendly fire. Something?s going on when Nick DePlume and Ryan Meader are the sane, reasonable ones and Apple's the out-there one. But then, I've always been out-there. Always believed Steve had a master plan up his sleeve, and that the next wave of computing would be launched by Apple. It?s just taking longer than I thought and I was beginning to lose my religion. Maybe it's all finally coming together. Halleluiah!
Hey, didn't they (Apple) once try to add up the speed's of one of their dual processor PowerMacs. Like, say it was a dual 400 MHz; they called it an 800MHz.
Now, suppose they've got a 1.2GHz G4 (stay with me). If they put two in a PowerMac and use the old add 'em together trick, we get 2.4GHz. "Where no PC has gone before."
Actually, oops, PC's have done that. Just not with a single processor - yet.
<break>By the way, spymac is from a German, and it's quite funny that the word spy, if you speak it, has the same meaning in German as "to vomit". Hehe.</break>
Doesn't anyone remember that the LCD order that became so famous after some stock analyst mentioned it referred to 15 inch LCDs? Unless they are planning on something else using 100,000 15 inch LCDs per month, then clearly the new iMacs will have 15 inch displays. There is no way that apple sells even close to 100,000 15 inch monitor displays, and certainly would not suddenly expect to more than double their sales of them.

Maybe Apple will put some 0.9 inches worth of shiny white duct tape on the screen's borders
How much more than a 15 inch CRT does a 14.1 inch LCD cost? 100$? Apple would make that 799$ iMac a 899$ iMac LCD: they could save a lot on shipping, stock space, advert costs (only one type of product, only one picture to be shown), etc. etc.
If Apple goes LCD, they go it thru the whole line.

How'd you arrive at those numbers, joecool? I can just see the whining on monday here after Apple leaves out the blowjob.

I just extrapolated what people are coming up with in their crystal ball by one day. I think it's pretty accurate!!

"Full Speed Ahead: Lust Factor Ten"
seems to tie in with 6! Or perhaps it's just talking about a new build of OS X as fast as OS 9.x?
[edit: Steve's RDF is toooooo strong!

OS X = OS 10, right?
The 'full speed ahead' would indicate default boot OS as of Jan 7, 2002. Lust factor 10 then simply refers to the lickability of OS 10.
Just trying to keep my hopes down
What would make us lust after X more than we already do? Honestly, I am stumped.
Harebrained guesses:
a) OS X on Power4. I seriously doubt it.
b) OS X on an ultraportable (tablet/handheld). My favorite choice is the handheld, but not so popular around here.
c) OS X on Intel. I think that can safely be put to rest. Apple will stick to PPC come hell or high water.
d) Hardware accelerated Aqua. Sure, it would be nice, but hardly a monstrous breakthrough considering all the buzz.
e) Shatner is taking over as iCEO, and Jobs is moving to iCKO (Chief Keynote Officer).

The question that still remains, is does Apple consider 1GHz fast enough to live up to the hype they are producing?

If it was combined with a new cool iMac with something surpisingly new (like Airport was it for the iBook) I think so.
