BTW in europe we put smaller implant than in USA. US people love bigger breast than those implanted in Europe. The more the implant is big, the more unnatural is the shape.

The most difficult part of breast enlargement surgery, is the correct choice of the implant. (correct diameter and projection).

I have a lot of public (and not only man) when i do breast enlargement surgery.

Saying to a woman or to anybody to appreciate his anatomy the way it is, is a waste of time. If somepeople is unhappy with his anatomy, you won't change his mind. I have refused one a breast enlargement on a pretty young woman, with very nice breasts. I say to her that she has pretty breasts, and that it would be a shame to enlarge them. I don't know if she followed my advice, or if she find an another plastic surgeon.

No insult to you intended (actually, Powerdoc, I had no idea this was your line of work), but I stand by my preference for breasts without implants. To me, there is nothing unattractive about small breasts - I like them as much as large breasts. However, implant breasts ? that I am aware of - don't do it for me. I really don't like that artificial 'inflated' look.

I am sure that you are right in that, if implants are done, it matters very much how they are done. Perhaps the dreaded ?inflated? look is not inevitable. I am sure that there are women (and men) who are very pleased with the results. Of course, many of these even seem to be happy with the 'inflated' look.

Regardless, I just don't see the need, unless it is a case of reconstructive surgery or a real deformity. Breasts are so very beautiful as they are.

But to me, Tom Robbins "the vertical smile" is still the best description ever for any part of the female anatomy.

I think raising little girls with closets full of Barbie dolls affects their self-esteem when they hit puberty.

If boys were raised from the age of five with images of adult males with huge erections, they might find their self-esteem a little shaky too when they hit puberty, and their erections didn't quite measure up to porn-star proportions.

To digress a bit: I have read any number of articles about the positive self-image that black American girls seem to have about their bodies. They are self-confident and accepting of their own bodies, even when their looks are mediocre at best; whereas white American girls feel insecure about their looks even when they are quite beautiful.

Life is tough enough without building culturally-imposed insecurities into 50% of the population. Of course the Barbie corporation and its investors have made a packet; so who cares about all the young girls (and then women) who can then seldom feel truly comfortable with and accepting of their own body image.

Of course, one solution is to get in, and stay in, fantastic shape, and give Barbie a run for her money! haha

i used to think breast implants were a waste of time for the most part. then a friend of my got hers done. i told her she didn't need them etc, as did pretty much everyone else.

problem was she just really wasn't happy with how she looked, and couldn't get over it. nothing anyone could say would make her feel any better about herself.

must say, she's been extremely happy since she got them done. one side benefit of a friend getting implants is that she loves to show them off. they look and feel quite real.

I suppose that if having implants really makes a difference, for some women, between feeling good about themselves and feeling down, then they should go ahead. But I am sad that breast size would make this difference for so many. I'll say it again: big or small, women's breasts are beautiful.

Ironically, the closest personal experience that I have had with cosmetic breast surgery - that of my sister - was a breast reduction. Yes, this does happen. My sister is, like my grandmother was, a small person, but had quite large breasts. (By "small person" I don't mean just short, but also with delicate bone structure.) For small women, large breasts actually can be quite uncomfortable. My grandmother lived at a time when nothing was done about this, and she was in some discomfort all of her adult life. My sister had other options, and when she was about 30 yrs, she had the reduction done.

Yes Chinney you are absoloutely right. One of my best friends is in the same position and would love to have a breast reduction but has never been able to afford it. But yeah, she experiences considerable discomfort and it's affected her posture quite badly. Such a cruel twist of fate because they're a fabulous set of tits just too big for the rest of her body.

Hey Carol that thing about the different body attitude of black and white American girls is really interesting. Do you know if they've done any research as to why they have the different attitudes?

Small breast can be attractive too ( i fully agre, and i know people who only love small breasts). No breast at all are not beautiful at all . A lot of my patients has nearly no breasts, they look like teenager boy, and that's not really pretty.

Concerning breast reduction, all your points are correct. Big breast are much more inconfortable that small ones. Big breasts give upper dorsal pain, between the scapula, a bad cyphotic attitude (in order to hide their breasts), is not suited for sport practice.

In France, i do much more breast reductions, than augmentation. Breast reduction are not considered esthetic surgery in France, and thus the vast majority of women can afford it.

Unfortunately, there is not so much media communication about breast reduction, breast augmentation is so much more spectacular.

I will say that with breast augmentation, women feel better in their skin, but with breast reduction they feel better in their body.
