I hope so. I think $129 for three consecutive years would be asking a bit much. You'd be renting the OS, not owning it, especially as Apple ties new apps/features to the latest version only.

I think its fine to use a name for the project of an OS version (eg jaguar, panther) but I don't see the connection between a cat and a computer operating system.

Are they implying it can't be tamed, sleeps a lot, has a big appettite and is not particuarly intelligent.

Different cultures also associate different meanings with animals/objects.

Acronyms and numbers are associated more with computers than any names.

I would prefer an acronym/numeric combination.

    Personal preference only.

We're just bebinning development of a new piece of software. Here are some of the names we came up with that might be applicable to 10.4.

    X 10.4 - Super Hyper Global MegaNet

    X 10.4 - Skynet

    X 10.4 - Purple Dishwasher Monkey

    OS X 10.4 Jabberwock

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

__Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:

    All mimsy were the borogoves,

    __And the mome raths outgrabe.

    "Beware the Jabberwock, my son!

__The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!

Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun

    __The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:

__Long time the manxome foe he sought --

So rested he by the Tumtum tree,

    __And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,

__The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,

Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,

    __And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through

    __The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!

He left it dead, and with its head

    __He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?

__Come to my arms, my beamish boy!

    O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'

    __He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

    __Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;

    All mimsy were the borogoves,

    __And the mome raths outgrabe.

I don't think we'll see the continuation of the cat theme for one reason:

Steve Jobs has already seen to it that all cats and watermelons have been eaten.

sure, lynx is a cool name... but they'll still need more names for 10.5, etc.

Unless of course, they start using new codenames/names from 10.5.

I could see Lynx, Cougar, Tig(g)er as good names still. And Jobs pronouncing Cougar with a Boston accent as "Cougah"

I vote for MacOS 10.4 'Lion'.

With 11 series could use bird names, like Eagle or Falcon

    P.D. My first post.

It's an old joke from the AppleInsider years of yore, pre Great Blackout.
