actually its not out yet... mines on order probably 5 weeks, and all it is, is a standard def A/V IO no biggie, the price point is whats great, but then again with HD flooding pro markets if they come out with an HD solution for under 3,000 then yeah that'd be great.
We got one of the first AJA Io units last August. It's really the ultimate i/o device for SD video! The newer IoLD and IoLA would be great for field work.
The cheapest 3-chip high definition camera (not camcorder) shown at NAB will be a Sony point of view camera costing $15,000.
I talked to a pro video vendor last week who just had a client order a $103,000 Sony Hi-Def camcorder head, then another $34,000 for the lens to go with it. Add a nice tripod to the mix and you're getting close to $150,000 for one pice of camera gear. Sick. You better have a good ROI if you're spending $136,000 on a camcorder.
I guess the only thing you could say might be in the realm of possibility is a 30p native 16:9 3-chip prosumer cam. That's about as good as it's going to get at this years NAB.
Heh, I am running on a 3 year old mac right now (single 867), and told myself I would upgrade once the 3.0GHz G5 came out. Why then? Because at this point I don't absolutly need a new machine, but I figure after 4 years, I could use the speed increase. So any sign of that happening sooner ratehr than later is good
I'd completely believe it if an insider told me all the announcements will be iPod related, I just hope they arent. I wanna see some serious pro software and hardware.
It's always Apple who teases us with these double meanings and hidden meaning messages in their "invitations." Moving Pictures could mean...
1. Moving them around in an application and editing them.
2. Moving them on a network as in (motion pictures) iTunes for movies.
3. Moving them on a device.
The same goes for the sound, except for the industry part...well, I guess you could say a PowerBook G5 would move the industry, as well as pictures and sound. Either that or Apple has some really emotional news to tell us and the industry via, pictures and sound.
For an FCP control surface I am thinking of something like an extended Mackie Control with audio faders and jog wheel but also with FCP editing buttons like a traditional linear editor and with trackballs for colour correction (that would rawk, CC in FCP is very good)
I think a mobile pro audio interface is quite possible; there have been rumours of a possible Apogee tie-up.
Point 5 upgrades of the Pro apps would be nice as well.
AJA IO has been out for 9 months (I've got one). The half-rack mini IO's are not shipping yet but will be shown off at NAB. There are several PCI card HD solutions under $2k already available.
I would like to see:
Better integration of the IO with other Apple software, not just FCP (DVDSP, Logic, Shake etc.)
A hardware control surface for FCP.
A cheap HiDef monitor solution (the fabled 30" LCD?)
A price cut for Shake (or Shake 'lite'?)
HD uncompressed at 1080i and 720p? I know there are some that do HD and can do somewhat but for the most all of them suck right now.

How about a High-Def Prosumer videocamera?
Not going to happen.

I would suggest to read again the news. In particular this part:
However, last year, Apple used NAB to unveil Final Cut Pro 4, Shake 3 and introduce DVD Studio Pro 2.
but that was last year...
are you saying they're gonna do the same ?
introduce updates and new versions....
we'll see

probally... something else you can take with you: a powerpod??
not a power- or ibook.
powerbook G5 @ wwdc2004 earliest

you mean a wireless wacom?

I'd bet on this one.
Maybe something as simple as moving DVD movies from your Mac wirelessly to a set top box for one to watch on TV.
2) MPEG-4 with H.264
--> NAB 2004 or little early
3) MPEG-2 with Transportation Stream
--> NAB 2004 or little early
4) Broadcasting over Wi-Fi
--> Jan 2004
6) DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50 and DVCPRO HD
--> DVCPRO 50 is here, DVCPRO HD at NAB 2004 or little early
I narrowed the predictions down to those that pertain to NAB2004-related technologies. Let the cursing begin...
