A lot of Fortune 500 companies are sitting up and taking notice, actually. FM Pro is almost certainly Apple's biggest presence in the business world, and this announcement will give Apple even more cred in that space.
Anyone calling for Apple to get serious about the business market needs to cope with the fact that when they do, it's not going to be anything flashy.
I want to d/l the demo, whip some stuff up and show my boss. This is exactly the sort of thing we could use. It's exciting... if you're the right kind of geek.
Oh, don't get me wrong...I totally dig and appreciate what it means and where it points and all, for the platform. It's just, you know, not everyone's cup of tea...and I don't see it being on the front page for another 2 or so weeks, that's all. I was being purposely over-the-top in my previous post, for effect.
For those who rely on things like FileMaker, more power to them. Go buy it!
I say there's an even 50/50 chance of something released tomorrow, although the silence from Think Secret (and even AppleInsider) kinda speaks volumes. They usually seem to give a one-day's "heads up" quite a bit.
And it might not even be an Apple thing, I guess. They've highlighted Quark, Adobe CS and other stuff there in the past.
Nah, they'll surprise everyone and do it the day after, Wed the 17th. St Patty's day. And it'll be glowing GREEN!
yah it could work... a green iMac base with a special shamrock inside of the apple irish stuff is great.... mainly cuz thats my herritage but its still kool.... that and canadian stuff
I'd bet on a small across the line speed bump (G4) on the iMacs first before we get the motherlode G5 tower upgrades. Hopefully a price drop too.
Me thinks that product line is in a bit more dire straits. Yes, it needs a major overhaul with a G5 in it...but that's later after the dual 3Ghz towers are revealed later this summer.
Even if they don't, you can go out the next day and get piss drunk about it. And since everyone else is because of that blessed irish holiday, nobody will know how bloody geeky you are for drinking Wednesday.
I hope you are right, I need an update. As long as we are going with insane betting, 25 cents says that PB G5's will come tomorrow.
No, that would be the only insane bet. We've got a much better chance to see updated G5s tomorrow. That PB won't show for a while. But I'll take you up on it though, PM my for my home address, I want my quarter.
Apparently hidden inside 10.3.3 update, thx to tad44 for finding this, to be confirmed by others I guess.. p.s. can someone check to make sure?
Our milage (kilometerage) may vary
Based on the context of the post I assume that those "plug-ins" are equivilent to system enablers in the OS 9 days.
That takes care of the soon to be "shipping" Xserves and soon to be anounced PM's (Hopefully), but what is the highest number for the iMac, and what was it up to before this software update?
Is it possible that the first G5's were 7.2 and the dual 1.8 became the 7.3?
If 7.3 was not in the last update of the OS then I would say not it is not possible. Also, with such a minor change to the dual set-up, basically down-clocking a dual 2.0, I doubt that it required a seperate enabler for it to work.

At least I can drink a Pepsi.

We'll know, either way, in about 12 hours or so.

Current G5 is PowerMac7,2.
from AppleMacRISC4PE.kext's info.plist:
<key>PowerMac7,2</key>
<string>PowerMac7_2_PlatformPlugin</string>
<key>PowerMac7,3</key>
<string>PowerMac7_2_PlatformPlugin</string>
<key>RackMac3,1</key>

No. 10.3.2's AppleMacRISC4PE info.plist didn't have:
<key>Powermac7,3</key>
