A dock connector on this thing would make sense for the same reason it makes sense on the iPod: It's a way to get power to the device, and also a way to sync quickly and reliably over FireWire (most likely, the connector of choice).

I'm going from the assumption that this device is more a hopped-up iPod than a funny-looking Mac, a DLD rather than a PC (and I'm assuming that mostly because I consider an elegant implementation of the former far more feasible than the latter - tablet PCs suck for a reason). Ink ran on a handheld before, it can run on a handheld again.

Then again, this whole thing could be a head fake: Remember, the iPod scroll wheel was disguised as a mouse design in its patent application.

I think it is niether a DLD or the next mac, It is mostlikly the portable display for the new imac. After all the bad reviews of portable monitors/TVs maybe apple can do it right.

I know this wouldn't probably happen, but it is fun to imagine anyway. So just humor me and have a good laugh...

What if Apple releases a small iMac 3 that looks exactly like the 17-inch and 20-inch. This small iMac would have a big surprise, you could take the screen off and use it as a tablet. Then when you are done, you plug it back onto the computer chasis on a plug that fits that fits that connector on the bottom.

Well, that would at least justify a slightly higher price.

I'm skeptical of a wireless monitor, but at this point I'm willing to just sit back and see what Apple does. They obviously have something big in the pipeline.

Should anything come to pass that resembles anything Kormac may have had a wet dream about one day while masturbating to the ars battlefront, just remember that even a blind pig finds a truffle now and again.

Would that be because pigs don't use their eyes to find truffles?

So about this .pdf kit that is coming in tiger, that would be a nice helpful way of displaying al types of docs on a little 8-10" DLD.

All I can say is that the fact that TS reports the new iMac is like the this Sony Vaio is, unquestionably, confirmation that the screen pops out to a autonomous tablet computer.

These is NO WAY IN HELL Apple would make such an ugly, horrible and downright stupid compromise in design unless it had a real revolutionary aspect to it.

And THAT is the truth !!the truth

Wouldn't it be a hoot if apple's 20th year anniversary imac looks like this even if the software isn't even close.

    http://www.bu.edu/jlengel/kn65kfs.mov

This was done in 1989 or so by apple. Way before wifi and the web and google Hypertext was the rage at apple then.

Oh, and why can't the tablet act as a client for the imac running multiple users under osX?

This way every kid in the house gets his/her own tablet/display and wireless keyboard and mouse?

The Imac sits wherever and streams the info.

Perhaps the imac even hangs on the wall doubling as a HDTV?

Interesting video. That's great that the Tablet can be folded.

    Thank You....

Vendication is sweet. It's funny I here about a tablet from an Apple employee and I am raked over the fire from non Apple employee's for being a sucker. Then low and behold, looky here. It amazing how full people can be of them selves sometimes. I guess I am to believe "Think Different, Think the way I think".

TS reports that the new iMac is "similar" but in no way "exactly" like the Sony Vaio. They make that clear, although they haven't seen it... just report that their source has said it it really a poor comparison. TS is not the final word. They have not always been right. Two weeks and two days and we'll know.

If it looks like the Sony Vaio W series I won't complain. I love that machine.

There is a possible business here. Imagine sitting on the couch near your stereo and TV. You've got a small Apple tablet on your lap. With a touch sensitive screen and an internet connection (via Airport Express) you look up something to watch on TV. Say it is a movie. With safari you check out IMDB to read reviews of the movie. You start watching it. This movie reminds you of another movie you haven't seen in ages so you go online, find the DVD and buy it.

Or you're with your friends listening to music. You use the tablet to access iTunes on one of your computers and select the music to stream to the stereo. Maybe you also look up the album art or music videos.

These seem like obvious applications. The problem is can Apple with today's technology create such a device and sell it at a reasonable price. I think the technology part is possible. The reasonable price seems doubtful.
