What could this be?

This is not a cinema display. Look at the depth.

I have no idea if it's the iMac, but the ports would most prob. be on the right hand side if the apple-logo were on top of the screen.

The stuff peeking out from behind the thing is what has me hooked... and the placement on the floor, which, is dead on the same, as above.

Anyway I have made an ass of myself before on these boards, but it's definitely more fun to do so, so....

    I BELIEVE!

P.s. Just to prove I am not completely hoodwinked, the question that immediately springs to my mind, is "Where's the plastic wrapping?"

i really want to believe, but you guys do realize that an iMac would probably have more in the box than just the unit itself, right? Wheres the keyboard?

In order of likeliness (for me anyway)

    1. It's a plasma screen (and I'm not saying it's from Apple) inside a PowerBook box.

    2. It's the iMac G5

    3. It's a cinema display.

    4. It's a hoax.

    5. It's the video iPod.

This along with the small dimensions leads me to believe that it is a wireless device.

And maybe this explains the lack of documentation as well... maybe they designed the experience to be like prehistoric man finding the monolith in 2001. You open the box seee this... look at it for awhile then it turns on by itself. lol

Thanks for those exifs. But you must be aware, that these shots are not a good advertising for Kodak

First, the thing the pictures is big. It looks bigger than 17" to me. In fact, it look nearly as big as a 23" display, but it's probably 20" or so. Forget about it being a tablet

Second, the box is matte black. The recent Apple black boxes all look kind of shiny when you take a picture with the flash turned on. Try it with your recent Mac box and see for yourself.

Finally, it looks like a real piece of hardware to me. If it's an iMac, then I'm left to wonder how annoying it'll be to use the optical drive, and what is going to keep it from tipping over. There's room in the box for a reasonably sized "foot", I suppose...

(And if it's a hoax, then it is a very shrewd one.)

    Maybe?

(I have no idea what that means.)

Just have never seen an apple product ship without its plastic wrapping around it, and warranty seals, etc. So, if something was just tipped out of a box, it would be on it, no?

Plastic wrapping around the box?!?! Not the last hundred or so Apple computers I've seen (where I work we order quite a bit of Apple)

Plastic wrapping around the computer? Well its not really plastic (near as I can tell) and it looks exactly like what's bunched up in the top 1/2 of the polyethylene (styrofoam) container - it's white and kinda sorta fabric like but not exactly..

If this isn't a retail box, would all the components necessarily be inside?

If this is the iMac, perhaps the keyboard folds up in a similar way to the Vaio that's been brought up in comparison.

Also, if this is the iMac, I think it bodes well for a G5 Powerbook sooner than later. Even though this thing is certainly thicker than a Powerbook and would have more effective cooling options available to it, there's still a bunch of stuff and a G5 crammed in a small space.

heh. I will take that as a (backhanded?) compliment? (Fear not, I am always lurking.)

At any rate, the photos really, after looking again, look dang real to me. But hey, I never underestimate how devious the board members can be around here.

I think it's a little suspicious that both shots are taken from probably the only angles which wouldn't yield definite proof of authenticity - for instance you can't see the front of the box and therefore any photographs, likewise can't see the back of whatever it is.

I reckon that if you had a spare Powerbook box and a LCD/Plasma TV, you'd shoot it from those exact angles so as not to give the game away.

I think someone's having a little fun - of course, I'd be delighted if I were wrong!

Can any of you Photoshop experts pull out any additional details from the first photo?

It's amazing that this thing can be any size you want it to. In the first photo, I think it looks very large. But in the second photo, with a hint of a thumb up there, it looks excedingly small.

Whatcha trying to do, give me a heart attack?

Maybe you are right... wish the guy hadn't used the flash on that one (like the the other, hence the color-shift).

Yeah, I was thinking that too. It's hard to tell the real size of the display/unit.
