I think the tuesday a week from now is just as likely as tomorrow...
That would put it right after iWork/iLife ships. Very logical!
As to the other issue: I agree with some above that the PowerBook G4 is a great machine and if you want a computer, buy it. REMEMBER: If you buy the G5 when it first comes out, you will have to wait 2 months of back-orders to get one, AND you'll be dealing with Rev A technology... brand new. There will be heating problems and etc. Why risk it for a 10-20% speed boost to some operations? Buy the G4. Or, wait a few weeks for the update, THEN buy the G4.
Me, I'm waiting for a PowerMac update. I'm done with laptops for a while. I'm tired of trading power for portability.
A question:
Why Tuesdays?
I've heard it said before, and I've seen it in past releases...
but what's so big about Tuesday? Why not Mondays or Fridays or something?

Not so logical.... Apple already has OEM copies of iWork and iLife 05. They can easily be shipped with Powerbooks. Waiting for the boxed versions has nothing to do with being able to put the software on with 10.3.7 now, or shipping a stand alone cd.
Maybe I should take your advice and stay with powermacs, thought I'm tired of being in Portland OR all day and not having a laptop. I think its time for a g4 powerbook for me.
I'm already on a dual 2.0 Rev B with 9800xt.... got with a developer discount...
So I could get an iBook for about 1100 but I'm just not sure about that 1024x768 screen res. I was really thinking I should get a 15.2" powerbook. What do you think?
I really love the iBook line. I'm working on one right now (800mhz G3) that I've done EVERYTHING to and it still kicks butt. Movies, NeverWinter Nights, monstrous iTunes and iPhoto collection... it still purrs along beautifully and never crashes.
I would never buy a PowerBook, not anymore. Desktop machine for power, iBook for portability.
I think I'm gonna get an iBook now... depends on the lowend 15.2" price (on the new ones)... if they are close enough to the 14"s I'll get a pb... if not... I'll get an iBook! Thanks man
Some news from the net: Apple will start shipping G5 iBook in Q2 2005, and they will also ship G5 PowerBook at the same time or a little later. From the Macworld Expo we know Apple will ship Tiger in the FIRST HALF of this year. Will Jobs ship a brand new system running on an old machine? I don't think so. And we could imagine that Apple will release the Tiger and ship the G5 laptop at the same time. This will really increase the sale. At that time you can get G4 laptop at a lower price.8)
There is still a lot of time. If I count correctly, it's only about 2.30 am right now on the West Coast, and you should at least wait till their noon to call off all bets.
the person told me that every store is updated tuesday around noon as you said
but as european stores didn't change (it's 1pm here), US applestore won't either
Without exception, every Apple product has always been announced in the US first, so I repeat: nobody should call this one off until West coast noon, which is about 9 pm on the Old Continent.
the G5 powerbook (if it ever comes out) will not be annouced until the fall of 2005 at the EARLIEST with powerbooks actually shipping spring of 2006. i got my powerbook in june of 2004 when the powerbooks were updated in april or so. just before that update i remember all these idiots swearing the next powerbook revision was going to be a G5. even if some of you were right and the powerbook had a G5 chip in it by summer of 2005. would you really want it? just like someone mentioned earlier the current lineup of G4 powerbooks has had alot of bugs worked out. apple produces "e-machines quality products" for revision A computers. it's sad, but the truth.
personally, i see at least one more speed bump with a possible price reduction "soon" then the next generation of powerbooks will have dualcore G4 processors. frankly, maybe apple should abandon the idea of a G5 chip in their portable line. why not just do what intel did and have some centrino or "mobile" chip line for portables? like maybe a G4.5 Mobile? or maybe it's cheaper to cram a G5 chip in a powerbook than redesign a chip entirely? i dunno, just rambling..,

I believe that most people here, if not all, are waiting to see if the widely expected speed-bumped G4 Powerbooks will be released today, and that includes, not in the least, myself, for I'm buying almost certainly. Honestly, I find even the current offering rather attractive, but I'm holding out because an update is overdue, and therefore buying now would mean that I could have had a better machine for the same price a week or two later, not to mention a machine that would hold its value a little better on the second-hand market. In any case, my current iBook G4 allows me to wait a few weeks.
Let me reiterate though, for it seems you're confused: nobody's expecting a G5 Powerbook today.
No, it is not the same every year. The small product updates usually come out, when they are ready. They do not wait for, or right after, big events.
I was really hoping today would be the day, I guess it still could be. However, I also think it would make sense to wait until next Tuesday. The reason being is that they are going to at least need to put something on the main page about the Powerbook, and I'm not sure they would want to share that space with shuffle, mac mini, and ilife right now. They are pushing those because they are new and exciting. However, I hope I'm wrong, and I hope we see the update today!

Also agree on the g4 vs g5 aspect.
I kind of meant logical in a marketing release kind of way, not in a packaging way... but who knows.
Hey, I've got the perfect solution for you!
Buy a refurbed G5 Dual 2.0-- that will run you around $2,000.
Also get a bottom end ibook (still quite a sweet machine).
That will run you $1000.
For $3000, you've just bought BOTH a laptop AND a desktop for the same price as a Powerbook with extra RAM!
:-)

Guaranteed the iBooks won't be g5 this year and most likely not next year either.

What the hell are you talking about?!
No one "corrected" it.
Dozens of people have emailed Digitimes and they all have recieved replies that say the story is accurate according to their sources.

Not always, they were off on the last Powermac announcement date by a week also, I'd wait till tomorrow I bet you money they will be announced then.
Also TS was wrong on the fastest Powermac speed (they said dual 2.6).
hopefully for you, you didn't bet money...
nothing new today !

then i have to be patient AGAIN
After that, I think March is more likely.

i don't want to spent extra money into options like 5400 rpm HD if it will included "for free" in the updated powerbook...
btw, by the past, how does it arrive ? 1 week after macworld ? 2 weeks ?
is it the same every year or is there any exception ?
