Hmm... though meager, that is the best hint we've had so far anywhere, I think. Obviously they could have simply sold out of all local stock.

    But still, somewhat promising.

U.S. site shows no change as of yet.

6-8 days is the normal delay for built-to-order configurations !

    with no options, it's 24h

now try to change an option like the hard drive, and 6-8 days will reappear

    Nein,

He's right. The German site shows 6-8 tage for all PB models, standard.

Aber nicht so for die PowerMacs. Selbsverstandlich.

It's been comfirmed, Powerbooks have been EOL'd

Hardmac - English version confirms eMac and Powerbook EOL

So that means buy all the current stock so the new ones come out quicker

Now we're talkin'. How long between EOL and new stuff in general?

1 to 2 weeks for computers... the displays took about 3 months... but that may have been related to WWDC

I was really surprised it didn't happen yesterday.

The Best Buy Canada chain is dry, with whatever demo models are left being reduced significantly in price.

I would have thought the earlier in January the better, because of education needs for the new school term. Shows what I know.

The CompUSA site has the 15" Powerbook available for "in store pick up only"- but when you try to find a store to pick it up, they've either got 'limited quantities' or none (only 1 store in the San Francisco Bay area appears to have stock, in Pleasanton). They ALL say, even if they have stock, it's "not available" for in-store pick up.

    Hmmmmm.

I think they'll have to put the updates out soon.

I too have been holding off for new Powerbooks. I even upped my credit card limit the day before MacWorld in anticipation I will be satisfied with a G4 bump, but would love a G5 (though I doubt it will happen). The big issue for me is a better graphics card. I would love to be able to run Motion on a Powerbook, that would kick some serious bootie Right now, even the ATI 9600 Pro in my dual 2.5 at work is not that great(I really, really want a better card) but is sufficient for most simple tasks.

This is what Im hoping for:

    1. Modest increase in speed

    2. Better graphics card

    3. Superdrive standard, dual layer BTO (come on Apple! this should have been done months ago in the PowerMac line!)

    4. Bigger HDs

    5. More standard RAM (I wont hold my breath)

    6. Modest price drop

One idea - could Apple be waiting for 1.3.8 to be released (or at least near completetion)? I have a feeling we will have to wait till February But hopefully Im worng.

    Oops : )

Its actually an ATI 9600 Pro, not the XT which I believe has more RAM. This only has 128mb.

The 15" and 17" PB's are now shipping in 7-10 days on the Apple US site. This morning it was 24 hours. . .

If it has 128 its the 9600xt or the 9800pro... But since its in a Dual 2.5 and has 128mb vram, it's definitely a 9600xt (that's what I have in my dual 2.0 rev b at home). I haven't had a problem with it personally... what are you doing that it can't keep up with?

Running Motion & Maya. It bogs down in heavy compositing situations using Motion, and running working with Maya isnt as snappy as it should be (this could be an issue with the program, but I get the "feeling" that its the graphics card or perhaps a driver issue).

At any rate, the better the graphics card the happier I am... Im hoping for an x800 XT in my G5 and something decent in a Powerbook update.
