Enzo, one source of information about previous releases can be found at Macrumors.
iBook911: Apple's not afraid to mention a small bumpkin like this exclusively in one of the low-key squares below. At other times, they might give it a few days' rotation between other important and less important items. Look at apple.com today: they have some kind of system that serves you up a different home page each time you come. Now it's iLife, then it's Mac Mini, then again it's the iPod Shuffle. A new Powerbook wouldn't look too much out of place there.
However, it's now past 11 pm where I am, it's almost not Tuesday anymore, so I'm kind of giving up hope of seeing something this week.
historically, when have they updated the site to reflect new models?
is there still a chance, considering the work day hasn't really started yet?
From what I understand there isn't any particular official apple policy about updates like this at all.
It's simply more likely that the update will happen earlier in the day so that you don't have people who get an old powerbook on the very same day that new ones are released...
Speaking of which, has anyone thought to call the apple store and just ask?
More than my signature suggests, you'll notice that on all 3 of the best (in my opinion) rumor forums, that is, Applenova, Macrumors, and this forum here, I have exactly the same handle and sig.
Not to bend you all into further contortions, or add to Apple's bandwidth problems from everyone hitting "refresh" 800 times a day, but there's no law that says "quiet" product releases have to come on a Tuesday. The last Power Mac update was on a Wednesday. The original G4 iBooks came on a Wednesday. And the last PowerBook and iBook updates came on a Monday.
This is too much waiting. I think I will go find something else to do for a few days.
Furthermore, I simply think there is a lot of focus on Mac Mini, Shuffle, and the new software right now. Lets get past Saturday, and I think we have a better shot.
Although... Apple has been known to sneak in new versions of old products on a Wednesday.
I guess what they are waiting for is the moment when the inventory of the current offering is low enough so that they can reasonably expect to get rid of them without losing their shirts (as refurbs and/or warranty replacements?) while selling new models full throttle.
So if you could all just start buying a few, I'm sure I'd have a new model in my hands a lot faster.
apparentely, a chain of retail store "FNAC" in Europe has changed the status of the actual powerbook into "stop supply"
which probably means they are currently selling their stocks in order to welcome new models soon
we can expect good news from AppleStore next week (?)
Is it possible that they are planning to stop selling Powerbooks altogether? I remember that the Fnac where I used to live (Gent, Belgium) silently removed Apple products from its store at one point. When I asked them what was up, they said they only sold Apple on request now, and they actually referred me to an Apple dealer just around the corner.
I might be wrong, but I don't think Fnac is the best yardstick for measuring the plausibility of rumors.
I looked at the german Apple store; estimated shipping now 6-8 days. A few hours ago it was 24 hours. The new Powerbooks are coming! I hope a superdrive will be standard. And price drops

I agree, it is already too late for an update today. Perhaps next Tuesday.
hopefully they will be bumped today!

The folks in Cupertino are probably still brewing up some coffee!
We'll see, I've got my fingers crossed.

MacRumors posted news of the last update in April at 8:45 AM EST. I assume that was near the time the updates were posted. Perhaps I shouldn?t.
I hate this.

Funny life, isn't it?

You're absolutely right.
I've managed to limit myself to checking the site onyl 3 times today. That's pretty good. For an obsessed freak. :-)
Heck, we might be waiting for March.

And.....
Silence.
Guess we're all a bit tuckered out. With nothing to show for it. Just a few rumors about "new" stickers on the Aussie Store site.
And tomorrow we'll be relaxed, even though the "Tuesday Update Release Myth" has been shown to be just that.
From GMT, g'night. If you can't sleep, count the miniscule HW upgrades that we're all stressing over.
