My TiBook gets holy crap hot. The power adapter burned me the other day. Dammit, look out credit card, here comes mini! I'm getting one!

The power adapter does get insanely hot, hotter than the PowerBook itself. My sister stands her AC adapter on its side so both faces get exposed to air.
You bought a SuperDrive model in person at an Apple Store? Didn't know they even had those in stock!

They ordered a number of BTO units to have on hand. I went to CompUSA and TekServe, and each said that they had no plans to stock the SuperDrive. Although CompUSA will sell me a TAP warranty if I buy from Apple SoHo.
So, the pressure was overwhelming!! I HAD TO GET ONE rather than waiting for an online custom order to ship. Like I said, very clever of Apple to have those 12'ers avaiable. There was a mob around them and there were three of us in the cashier line with new G4 notebooks. I am always amazed how busy that store is.
Its held together by tape!

The tape basically just keeps cables and the like in place. There is also tape in the ibook and probably the tibooks (never taken one of those apart though).
There's a strange quacking sound that comes from the trackpad button. Not great. Oh well, the keyboard still kicks some major butt. And it's so small. Barely bigger than my coolpad.
I dont know if anyone has mentioned it yet but there is a thread on the macworld forums you may want to check out. A review of a 12"AlPB... with pictures. Check it out.
People are getting their MiniPB's before me
Yo Steve, WHERE THE FOOK IS MY PB???!!!
See I can work my persona even in support of an Apple product!

You paid a couple hundred $$ less than I did. That's the cost of wanting to get things fast. I had a $430 credit at compusa that I would never use if it weren't for my computer, so I used it. (I returned my pocketpc - one I paid $160 for and I got a $430 credit for it - worth it, I'd say...)
whoa, that was weird, it said I exceeded the maximum number of images per post. I guess it must be all the smilies...
edit: Let me clarify that I did not dupe compusa into giving me any extra money. I had a PDA replacement plan that required at least a $400 PDA to satisfy the 'comparable' model that they were required to provide me. So I just asked for a credit instead.
Just got back from playing with a 12" at an Apple Store. I had sene them at CompUSA but the way they keep them bolted down just sucks and is really a poor way of selling them. You can't get a feel for it.
Anyway, I once said I thought it was ugly (I really don't like the iBook...so sue me ) but thsi was a very nice looking computer. Maybe it is the silver color...I don't know. It was VERY light. I thought it was built well. Overall, I give appearance/size/weight an A+.
As far as performance...it was VERY slow opening up the system profiler. In all fairness, it only had 256 MB RAM (They really should max out the RAM on demo models to make them snappier) but it seemed awfully slow nonetheless. Of ocurse I am used to my TiBook (see sig.) so with 4x RAM and the L3 cache, I am not surprised it was "slow."
I think this machine needs to have at least the max RAM...1GB would be better still, and the L3 cache would be good too. Performance C+.
I thought the display was kinda dim. Despite just having a 12" screen, I still feel 1024x768 isn't enough...they need to bump the resolution up a notch.
Display: B.
All in all, it is one sexy mo fo, but it could be much better. Hopefully the next revision will bump its specs a notch or two, but I feel this version isn't all that great...

I don't know if it includes the superdrive or not? I'll check my email every 10 seconds to see if I get a shipping notice.

These loons took one apart already! Very cool inside, and the heat sink/fan/??? looks positively alien.
