I was dicking around with one in a store here in London just the other day, and my mind is made up, MiniTi for me!
That said, this one was exhibiting trackpad oddities: it would track almost where you wanted, then scoot back to the center of the screen. I'm hoping it was just me having dirty fingers, and the fact that shop-floor machines get all manner of gunk from the great unwashed on them...
So, just as soon as I have the financial side worked out, I will be getting myself a nice birthday present. Job one when it gets home is to stick it in Firewire Target Disk Mode and get Carbon Copy Cloner to squirt my existing System across...

Congrats on your decision! But a word of caution: I wouldn't do the CCC of your system unless the OS gets an update between now and the time you get it. The mini comes with build 6H28 whereas 10.2.3 is a lower build. It may cause some problems. I think that if 10.2.4 comes out before you get it, you shouldn't have a problem doing the cloning since the changes will be rolled into that update. Enjoy the mini!

Ah, thanks for the heads-up on that... The current ETA is a week on Wednesday, and I suspect 10.2.4 won't be out by then... What the hell, if it breaks I can use the CD from the box.
I went into my local John Lewes to look at the 12'' PB, It was butiful, Keyboard was really nice, and I loved it. And then spent 40 min helping a elderly couple buy an 12"iBook.
Just ordered one on monday for my boss, got a 512 chip as well. Should be here this afternoon, cant wait to "configure" it for her. Since she's not using it as her main computer maybe it will come home with me sometimes for "repairs"
ok got it, this thing is so cool! its really tough looking and feels great really rugged. After seeing this I'm so tempted to get one myself. The only thing that weirds me out is the mouse button sticks out above the surface, and you click into the surface.
Thanks so much for mentioning Carbon Copy Cloner -- I had never heard about it before! I will be moving to a (pretty-much) new TiBook 867 this weekend from a Pismo 400, so discovering that software will make the process WONDERFUL!! Tell me, those of you who've used it, do you recommend reformatting the destination drive or will CCC overwrite the exisiting software on the new computer automatically?
Ok really shouldn't be reading this stuff, I ordered My 12" PB weeks ago. full of ram and 60 gigger in it too. I got an airport card for both the laptop and My g4 tower.. I'm so excited and reading your posts makes the wait unbearable! I hope my girl understands my mysterious disappearance when it arrives.

If you tell it to, it will overwrite everything, so there's no need to reformat. Keep in mind that if 10.2.3 is the most recent build on your pismo, just cloning the HD may cause some problems because the 12" comes with a higher build (likely some hardware support modifications like AE, etc.). So do your cloning with caution. My 2¢.
Nah, the 10.2.3 build is no problem here -- I meant that I will be moving to a used/pretty much new Titanium PB G4 867. I didn't get the 12" (seeing as this has to do with this thread), despite the fact that I could have gotten a maxed-out new MiniBook, because I just do not think I could work with that size screen all the time, and the cost of the PB plus external monitor would have been the same as TiBook -- and given the fact that the PB doesn't even properly output to digital monitors, well...I guess I've just gotten too used to the 1024X768 on this 14" screen. And for us nearsighted people, 12" at that same res can be painful during most everything.

You know, I was just thinking about this and you might have trouble with classic if you clone the drive. I'm not sure that it would matter because you might not use classic at all. (I haven't used it once.)
This is definitely going to be my first machine that has no OS 9, even for Classic purposes, since I've now moved all my apps over to X.
I've gone from using Classic probably twice a week to maybe once every three months, and since I installed
Jag I've booted OS 9 to use precisely one app.
In fact, one of my little projects for this weekend is to move my OS 9 installation onto a spare hard drive I can slap in a Firewire case and delete it off my internal drive. And I mean delete as in rm - r.
Once again, thanks for the heads-up about Carbon Copy Cloner -- I am posting this from my shiny, pretty-much new TiBook!! Since I was moving from a Pismo, however, I had to reinstall system software to access the combo drive properly. That was about it -- everything else worked like a charm! One tip for anyone doing this (which you all probably already know) -- I rebuilt my source HD with DiskWarrior before initiating the carbon copy.
I went to my Apple retail store yesterday to get a 12" PB, but I wanted it with 640 MB of RAM and they didn't have any 512 sticks in stock. (I know ... I could have bought my own RAM somewhere else but that would have left me with a 128MB stick to get rid of somehow.)
So I ordered online from Apple instead. Estimated ship time was 7-10 days, but after my order was logged I called it up and it gives an estimated ship date of March 3. D'oh!
I chased around town today and got me 12" of little beauty: I'm typing on it now...
Anyone need a 128MB DDR SO-DIMM? :lol
Edit: Just so's you know, I did the Firewire Target Disk/Carbon Copy Cloner trick, and it went off perfectly: reboot the PB, and, ooh, it looks the same as my Cube, and even has all my files in the right places. Cool!
Now to hack the "Computer" icon, since the iMac icon looks a)like crap and b)nothing like my computer...
/me goes to play in /System/Library/CoreServices...

It's a pity they don't support DVD-RW...

So the DVD-R burns CDs at 8x wich means about 10 minutes for a full disk.

gotta make sure you dot ever "i" and cross every "t".
it could take a few dozen months to really know for sure if a machine is ready for every day use.....
