Apple releases Mac OS X 10.4.1 Update
Apple unleashes the first maintenance update to its new Tiger operating system.
Apple this evening released Mac OS X 10.4.1 Update, which delivers overall improved reliability for Mac OS X v10.4 and is recommended for all users.
The release includes improvements to:
file sharing using AFP and SMB/CIFS network file services
using DHCP in wireless networks
user login when accessing LDAP and Active Directory servers
core graphics including updated ATI and NVIDIA graphics drivers
synchronization with .Mac
Address Book, iCal, Font Book, Mail, and Preview applications
Dashboard widgets: Address Book, Flight Tracker, Phone Book, and World Clock
creating and burning disk images using Disk Utility and System Image Utility (Remove)
compatibility with third party applications and devices

I just downloaded and installed it. The size was 36.3MB. Funny, the whole download and install process only took about 2 minutes and I'm on a wimpy 450MHz sawtooth G4. I'm now running 10.4.1.
(I noticed that it did not optimize after the install. Hope this is not a bad thing).

It's still stable.
Window resizing is faster than 10.4
H.264 playback is still not great on my Powerbook (I don't expect it to be) but it is smoother.
It's 'snappier' than 10.4 basically.
Haven't had a chance to see if the networking is any better however.
Address book - still buggy

I'll do a more extensive test tomorrow but for me address book is the same and weather worse - it stalled while i was typing (even though they didn't touch it)
when i am in Finder, my Apple menu is horked. It was definitely not like this before the reboot. Its fine in any other application. eeek.
UPDATE: ran macjanitor (all scripts), restarted and didn't fidget around on reboot when it was opening widgets and finder like I did before. Problem is gone.

Is Quartz Extreme 2D not being enabled why why the framerate on expose is so choppy on my mac G4 since the 10.4 update? did apple disable it when they updated from panther to tiger?
