Pro..... Hmmm... Hinting at something, but the possibilities are basically hardware, or software. Decisions decisions. I would hope for an intel based PowerMac with Dual Dual core Xeons, and PCI-E. Chances are probably Dual core PPC's with PCI-E though. But with my record over the past 15 tears I'd say it's probably something else. I've never guessed a product correctly yet that I can recall.
The AGP slot could be upgraded to PCI-express, but it seems premature to go to that for the I/O slots given that PCIe 1x cards are hard to find (I've found three PCIe I/O cards on NewEgg), at least PCI-X supports regular PCI cards.
agreed, only the graphics slot needs to go PCI-express-16x, and the rest of the slots could be standardised to PCI-x
given the imac if there are new powermacs the graphics slot will *definitely* be PCI-express.
They already have a photo management app. iPhoto. I'm hoping IT is updated. I doubt we'll see iPhoto Pro or anything like that.
I would expect iPhoto be updated with the rest of iLife in Jan '06 to make iLife '06. Personally, I'd like to see iMovie and iDVD improved as well, I expect it's about three months away.
yeah so wtf is a vingle? a video single? music video sold as a single? an advertising annoying jingle but in extra annoying video format? why did they patent/trademark/whatever "vingle"? ah, the iLord works in mysterious ways indeed...
They did pluralize "Innovations", so I would expect both Powermacs and Powerbooks at the show. They showed off the new iMacs, whose processor only moved up 100Mhz, and no one seemed to care or notice, so if they show off new PowerBooks and focus on the new features and lower price points, they won't seem so lackluster at all.
Considering how iMac was updated only few months ago, 100 MHz speed bump can only be considered an unexpected gift.
I agree with you on Apple needing to bring exciting features to PowerBook in order distract potential buyers of lethargic CPU speed bump. If I were to let my imaginations run wild (within realistic limits), I think we may see (in addition to possible features highlighted by last AppleInsider PowerBook report) Mighty Mouse-style touch pad (right side of the button for right click) or possibly iPod Click Wheel-style touch pad (clickable touchpad surface), 16x9 or 16x10 higher resolution LCD (matched by resolution independent UI-enabled build of 10.4.3 Mac OS X), NAND flash memory (speeding up certain hard disk access), integrated iSight, HDMI output (Apple must eventually move from DVI to HDMI), and dock port (I badly want Apple-made PowerBook docking station, and I know many corporate users want this feature).
I suspect the resolution independency is a bit much to ask for in a point increase, since application vendors will need to update their apps to account for it. I don't expect it before Leopard. Also, since NAND is dog slow compared to hard drives, how exactly does it speed up disk access?
I'd sign on for a clickable touch surface though. However, if Apple still needs to boost the speed of the PowerBooks if they want my cash. No amount of gadgets will change the fact that I need to justify the cost of the laptop by how much time it shaves off getting work done.
Another issue I was thinking of. With 37inch 1900x1200 LCDs on the market for around $2,000, Apple's 30inch LCD is looking a bit pricey.
'New' PowerBooks with HD displays & tweaked everything else (kinda like the 'new' iMac, which was nothing more than spec tweaks with a revised housing, and, oh yeah, the iSight)...
Some new Apple Pro software...
No giant leaps to Intel, no suprise Motorola/IBM wonder CPUs, no announcing that Apple is purchasing Luxology...
If Apple is going to release photo-related pro software, I guess it would make good use of the GPU through CI. A la Motion. Now if this is a direct competitor to Photoshop (with real time effects thanks to GPU rendering), it would make Adobe mad. I am not sure if Apple would go so far but who knows.

I am sure that Apple fully intends to take on Photoshop...
Just on their schedule...
Much like they are doing with Motion (very powerful app for 300 bucks, not quite an AE killer, but working towards it; for what it does, it does it VERY well), they will also do with this new Pro photo app...
Not quite a Photoshop killer, but for what it does...
It's all about long-term erosion of the competitor's marketshare/user base...
Ten years from now, folks may just be using Apple boxes with very well designed Apple software and be saying "Yeah, I remember Adobe..."

None of that...
There is nothing to see here...
Move along...
if theres nothing to see then they need to stop making these stupid announcements.
One event a week would be stupid, and drive the marketing budget out of control...
Apple is pumping up (and out...) these 'new' PowerPC products to generate some sales between now & MWSF '06 (when the first Intel Macs, probably Mac minis w/FrontRow & a new HDMI 40"+ HD plasma will be announced,,,)
After the Oct. announcements, it will be all about print/tv adverts to drive the Xmas holiday buying frenzy... The 'new' iMac with built-in iSight and the video iPod should both do well as Xmas booty...
And we all know the PowerMac line is nothing if not dead in the water right now... Dual 970MPs & PCI-E graphics will keep it alive for another year (with one, if not two updates/spec boosts thru the year) until the Intel PowerMacs come on the scene...

Not Photoshop. Think Pro version of iPhoto.

More like they are keeping Apple in the public eye, building towards saturation when the Intel Macs start rolling out next year...

Close, but not quite. I have it on good authority that he uses Keynote Extreme.
