Well, don't forget that the Christmas season is just around the corner, so debuting things now makes sense.
Unlike previous years when Apple waits until two weeks after Christmas. Somehow, I don't expect much in the way of hardware announcements at MWSF, if updated Power Macs and PowerBooks come out next week.

I think that's a good approach. I mean, who has money after the holidays anyways? (apart from mac fanatics who hoard their money for MWSF)
People have started to expect PowerMacs at WWDC every year now. With that in mind. Apple does need to get a more frequent update cycle for their Pro desktops. If they were to announce a PowerMac that would be a half decent cycle if there were another at WWDC next year which should be like late May, or early June. That's right around 6 months. And it actually also springs in right before XMAS on this end which is a good thing for Apple to update almost everything before XMAS for the buying season. They did say pro.
Apple may as well condition people now to expect shorty cycle revisions. They simply won't get away with 9 month cycles once they move to Intel chips.
This will be beneficial to Apple because they won't have a bunch of pent up demand causing people to sit on their hands. We'll all get used to smaller increments with the occaisonal new feature hype.
I'm looking forward to getting away from these mega announcements. I look forward to seeing less bytchin and moaning about buying a Mac at the wrong time.
I think Apple is "between a rock and a hard place" here...
Since apple is watched so closely by analysts today they are concerned about keeping their sales at a higher pitch than before, and so to combat the drop in sales before the Intel announcements I think the Apple MUST put a GREAT PPC product on the table to stop sale attrition.
So my prediction is that the PPC will start with the dual 2.5 or dualcore 2.5, and then progress to a medium with 2 - 2.2 dualcore and then 2 - 2.5 dualcore or something very similar.
There may be a 2.3 dual proc. for the first couple months to finish clearing stock
but not sure.
Definite PCI-e and DDR2 which is going to rock the systems with PC cross platform GPU at great prices, much lower than MAC specific cards of course.
And great GPU products coming standard on all but the low-end PM.
No. Sorry you guys have all missed it. I happened to be messing with my iChat. You know screwing around and such, and happened to catch Steve practicing his presentation. It was kind of at the end...
"The iPod Shuffle is our best selling iPod product under $100.00. So that means it time to change it. Introducing the iPod Pico! It's 32% smaller than the original iPod Shuffle, and we've added a 1/4" - 266,000 color screen. AND it will be available in black. The 256MB version will be $99.99 and the 512 MB version will be $129.99. Both are available TODAY!"
Of course, I recall that Adobe was annoyed with Apple for brining out iPhoto in the first place as they viewed it as competition with some of their consumer-level products. IIRC, the photo management capabilities of Photoshop Elements was the issue.

but steve jobs was annoyed first when adobe did not wanted to do consumer level software like iPhoto and iMovie. Steve said "beat it" and start develop them and buying companies to fill that gap in the software area, then, when adobe saw the success of iPhoto and iMovie, they [adobe] released their "elements" programs.
besides new hardware, apple could release new software, maybe a pro photo editing software & media management platform.
also, where is Apple Remote Desktop 3? maybe it will be released on the Oct 19 event.
If they do release the new image software, that might straighten adobe up and get them to crank out the CS suite faster... (est. late 06) I'm sure that Motion could be enhanced to take on After Effects.... it would be sweet if Apple introduced an After Effects killer!
Hopefully the photography releated element is a built-in iSight into new Powerbooks.
This is another misguided MAC User, iSight is not photography related
it is VIDEO related. If they are making an announcement before the ProFoto show in New York, then it will be something substantial, and it will be hardware I think. Has Apple ever had a special announcement away from MWSF that was software? NO.
You guys who think they are taking on Adobe Photoshop.... WOW, get
clued in. Adobe is one of the best friends of APPLE in the sense that their
software drives users to the MAC hardware.
This will be interesting. There is possibilities for a lot of hardware that would assist photographers, one of Apple's main customer base groups.
All the iApps, all the iPods, are about driving users to MAC platform
and hardware puchases. have you all forgotten the switcher campaign?
They pummeled Premiere with Final Cut Pro, and built Motion to go up against After Effects (though I find the two compliment eachother very well, but if Motion ever gets true 3D environment capabilities, I'll be launching After Effects much less often). Will they release an alternative to Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign? "Pages Pro"? Content creation, or simply content manipulation? Or just some sort of photo management software?
I guess the question would be, what does the photo/print world need? A Pro iPhoto? A Photoshop alternative? A camera? A printer? Often times with Apple products, you didn't know you needed it until they demo something you never thought of.
Apple didn´t piss of Adobe, they asked to collaborate with Adobe in certain Applications, like iPhoto and iMovie, but Adobe says, no, we have other plans... Steve Jobs told that story in the past, I don´t remember where I read it. So then Apple go and bought Final Cut Pro

Nah they won't use plasma displays.
There are new technologies using a combination of OLED backlighting and LCD pixels which is moving way beyond plasma.
I'm sure they will switch to HDMI when it becomes 29 pin and not the current 19 pin.

Maybe X700 128MB standard and X1800 CTO.

Maybe they're misguided but you should take a look at the difference between MAC and Mac.

I sure hope so. I don't have room for a boat anchor in my place.
