Well, I kept waiting. "Oh, AltiVec. Sweet." And waiting. "Oh, DVD burning. Nice." And waiting more. "Oh, 1.67 GHz is a huge step up. Oh, Sudden Motion Sensor is nice. Oh, it's got a Scrolling Trackpad."
But thankfully, I had set myself the threshold of "2 GHz. No matter what.", and that wait was well worth it.

Nah, It speaks of discipline..! In the face of towering temptation Sounds like even if it had say 10 1920x1080p hi-def blockbuster movies preloaded and seamlessly output to your tv/ plasma/ lcd, and it was Intel Core3 1.95ghz, you would have still waited...!!
Well, actually, I was lucky. My upgrade cycle is usually roughly 4 years, and in this case, this was pretty damn close (iBook: mid-July, 2002; MacBook Pro: early May, 2006). Plus, my iBook had been having a hard drive problem (despite multiple replacements; perhaps the problem was with the ATA bus instead) and various others, making it quite annoying to deal with. So, I was lucky that Apple did offer a 2 GHz machine just at the right time.
Would I have budged with a 1.83 GHz machine? Probably. But I can't promise I wouldn't have overclocked it to 2 GHz anyway.
Heh. November 2003 my brother got an iBook G4 933mhz for my parents. We got the full three year Applecare. It paid for itself easily, as after 1 year and a few months the LCD showed the "line problem" (the fun common problem back in that day) and then died. Replaced free under AppleCare.
Then about one year ago I fuXX0red with the iBook and modded in a 5400rpm 60gb WD Scorpio (the original Hitachi 4200rpm 40gb was used as an external USB medicine until the Hitachi DeathStar clicked itself to death six months ago).
I'm actually looking forward to the AppleCare on the iBook finishing in November this year, 'coz the iBook has been totally violated by my mod. The left speaker no longer works and 50% of the heat generated by the iBook seems to be coming out from the left speaker grille Also recently the USB ports decided to stop working with my thumbdrive and my scanner. Though it still works with our Logitech external USB mouse.
Anyways, over the next year plus, hopefully the iBook will hold out till the end of it's 4th year, it's important for my parents after at least 10 years (1993-2003) of supporting their PC (Win95, 98, 2000..), sometimes remotely (through dial-up!!) when I was studying overseas.....
Who knows what wonders a January 2008 Macworld MacBook will bring...! (Hopefully I'll have a job by then )

Nice way to slow life down a bit, to be waiting for something. You know, like standing that 10 minutes at the bus stop?
I might switch when these new core 2 duo processors come around, but we'll see. On the other hand I've got a nice notebook right now and it has plenty processing power, but I just feel like I'd like to try the new Apples out. Last Mac I had was in 1995 or something like that, been a while indeed.

Boy, that's pretty specific.

Resisting temptations isn't necessarily bad.
