32gb Flash drive (this might be split into two drives like typical Vaio notebooks)
no graphics card
10 inch wide screen
isight
2 USB, 1 FW400 (and maybe slots for memory cards)
Superdrive (probably not the DL)
LED based screen lighting
4 hr practical battery life (probably listed as "upto 7 hrs"
for the price of....$1999.
IT COSTS MORE TO STAY THIN. that's true for human beings as well as gadgets.
i like that pricepoint. it doesnt really cut into any other line's sales.
as for your specs, i mostly agree with them exept for the battery. apple is going to slam dunk this product, it is going to be almost perfect. they want to stun the world, so they will make an unbelievable product and im excited to see what the release.
This is a little off topic, but you guys can probably stop mentioning in every single article that Apple is based in Cupertino. We don't need the filler; just the news, please. Article's already long enough.
They're doing it for the search engines. Every keyword counts.
Yes, i agree with both of you. There is no where else for apple to go.

Tablet?
C'mon, don't tell me Apple isn't thinking about it - the technology in the iPhone UI is just screaming for it. I see a Newton comeback in a few years, maybe sooner.
But sleep mode wastes the battery, no matter by how little. It makes me wonder by how much, though. Here's a good test: charge your notebook fully, put it to sleep and then unplug it. Come back in 24 hours and see what charge remains. Maybe I'll do that tonight.
Well right after I bought my Macbook, I accidently put it to sleep when I thought I shut it down (it turns out I put it to sleep in Mid Shutdown ) and came back in about 8 hours, and I think it dropped down to... well I don't think I lost any battery life actually. I can't quite remember though \
I've been hammering on this point for the last... YEAR on my blog and other places for a long time. We need this in Japan - desperately. But I have to wonder what took so freaking long?
Japan is the number 2 consumer market in the world, and Apple is getting killed there. It's not just the infatuation with cute. It's the whole way we go to work - without cars. Sure, some people do drive but most of us use mass transportation. So, we gotta carry our laptops. Even the 12" G4 PowerBook is porky by Wintel standards.
To be honest, it doesn't have to have have NAND or all these other features to be light. The tech is already out there. But it should have come around nine months ago, not in June. That's the problem. Hopefully, my own 12" G4 will limp through the next couple months until this thing comes out.
Combined optical digital audio input/audio line in (minijack)
Combined optical digital audio output/headphone out (minijack)
Input Devices:
11" QWERTY keyboard
iSight
Multitouch display
Built-in omnidirectional microphone

The new MacBook Mini will also have small built in stereo speakers and will come with a compact docking / charging station. Charging will also support MagSafe power adapters for mobile charging. No I didn't forget to mention the back loading CD/DVD drive because it won't have one.
>As a first order of business, Apple got cracking on localized versions of its "Get a Mac" television ads, which were warmly received by both Japanese consumers and the local media.
. No way.
In Japanese culture, which puts emphasis on the humbleness, advertisements that critisize or attack their opposites are not welcomed.
In Japan, even political parties avoid such TV ads during campaigns!
Really, some Japanese hate the Get a Mac ads, and Apple is being laughed at, not because the CM is funny, but because the company does not notice such ads are not effective, or can result in an adverse result here.
I hope Apple notice soon that "localization" shall include more than just translation.
Hey I am no expert on Japanese culture but from what you say and what I have seen of some Japanese idea of TV entertainment there must be a dual standard. They have the cruelest sense of humor in game shows I have ever seen. Apple ads seem tame next to making contestants crawl through tubes filled with slime and / or insects and so forth. I am not criticizing simply pointing out your generalization of the Japanese reaction to Apple ads doesn't seem to add up to me.
I remember looking forward to owning a computer with a Hard Disk. Now I'm looking forward to one without one.
That's funny.
My first was a 'Profile 5 MB' on my Apple ///, wow, was that thing sweet. After years of three floppy disk drives on the Apple ][ I was in heaven with all that space
So, what form factor does everyone think this thing will have?
A) tablet style with single screen that is touch-sensitive
clam-shell
C) slide out keyboard
Hi Bergermeister, just been lurking about
I'm going to say a combination of Tablet, and Clam Shell on this one. I'm thinking about the Thinkpads actually. Hmmm, I'll have to give it more thought though.

have you ever seen 'I'm a Celebrity - Get me out of here!' or 'Fear Factor'?
- some of those are pretty cruel - equal of any Japanese TV shows!
But, Japan is a mass of confusing contradictions - simultaneously Polite/Rude, Cute/Ugly, Kind/Cruel, Superficial/Multi-layered etc
- but I would be surprised if Apple didn't run the Japanese versions of the ads past some native Japanese to gauge reactions

I can't agree with that one. Very few people have such large hands that typing on these machines is difficult. They are vastly better than a PDA.
1) It has Windows
2) Who uses a PDA these days?
Sebastian
vaio sz still lighter than any macbook or pro.
in fact. there's alot of notebook out there are slimmer and lighter than macbookz..
i think apple still didn't do well enuff for notebook.
The English Language has been DESTROYED!!!

Hopefully Apple has been waiting for "Santa Rosa" to be released to take advantage of Intel's GMA X3000 integrated graphics processor.

Clearly they should have come out with a Hello Kitty edition of the MacBook.
