<strong>all i know is that i've got more widgets than i have screen real estate for now. make a web browsing widget! a notpad widget! a widget-manager widget!!!</strong><hr></blockquote>
I'll start working on an operating system widget tonight!
I've got to say that I much prefer the app controls that I already use up in my menubar...for example: iChat, Airport, Sound, Modem, Bluetooth....all of those. WeatherPop is a nifty addition and there are certainly more out there. I know, I know....they're potential problems waiting to happen as Apple has decreed them "off limits".
The problem that I have with these Konfabulator widgets is that they're too big and they're always falling to the back...and I don't -think- that you can put them into the dock. The little game widget is the only one that I may drag out from time to time. I like the calendar widget, but would like for Apple to integrate the mini-calendar function into the time/date drop down menu and have it connect to iCal...that's a more functional solution.
Perhaps if I had more screen real estate my thoughts would be different on this thing. As it is, I don't think that I'll end up using it much....still Brad, there MUST be SOME kind of good AppleInsider Konfabulator widget...you're just not trying hard enough!
I guess the closest one to an AI widget is that website widget.....I guess you could call it an AppleStore Status widget! It would let you know if the store was up or down.... That's always worth about thirty raving threads anytime around a MacWorld.
Weatherpop only works for cities in the United States. I need something that I can have two or three smaller regions (Say, Manning Park, Camrose, Calgary and, of course, Medicine Hat) so I can go 'nyah nyah, I have better weather than you!'
Why? Because I can! Need there be any other reason?
Weatherpop?!? I haven't heard that word in Mac circles for a very long time. Isn't everybody using Meteorologist now?
Meteorologist can keep track of separate locations, too. And it works in Canada, too. At least Calgary and Medicine Hat have specific locations from weather.com, but I'm not sure about the other two. You may need to do some hunting for those.
Brad I use Safari only for AI anyway so this would be quicker.
In retrospect I see your point but for <a href="http://www.dictionary.com" target="_blank">www.dictionary.com</a> at least I think this concept would be nice. However I hope konfabulator will eventually allow Widgets to live in the Dock or Menu Bar.
I do think that Konfabulator is a neat application, and the graphic quality is very engaging. When scalable widgets become available it will become even MORE interesting.
The two big problem that I have with it is the viewability and physicality of the widgets.
VIEWABILITY - the widgets are always falling behind finder windows. What's the solution for making these things jump back into view? If they were in a dedicated dock of their own things would be more easily managed. That's why I like the do-hickeys up in the menubar (this is the first I've heard of meteorologist!).
PHYSICALITY - again, when the widgets aren't falling behind finder windows they're in front of finder windows or items on your desktop or active applications......basically in the bloody way. If you want to get behind them you must move them out of the way. Again, this is a dedicated dock issue.
I have no documentation yet, so...left button is reset, right button is mode (currently nonfunctional -- will switch between up and down), and right button is start/stop.
My buttons don't have a large enough clickable area, I know. I'm working on it.
Okay dammit, I just went over to Future Hardware and there must've been about a zillion locked threads with titles about the Apple Store being down.
Somebody, PLEASE make an Apple Store Status Widget. Whenever the website is down have the widget change status and activate a nice big juicy glowing button that will automatically take you to AppleInsider's Future Hardware forum when you press it.
THERE. That would be the penultimate AppleInsider Widget.
See, told you!
Maybe connect it to the stopwatch thing to see how long it takes until somebody posts a thread "alerting" everyone to the fact that the store is down.
A totally pointless widget, it would FLY off the shelves!
Hey! My weather icon just changed from a little snow cloud to a cloud with the moon behind it! Now that's nice! It's the little things like that (a moon if it's night and a sun if it's day) that make being a Mac user such a joy.
(Sorry if I sound giddy, but I just love this little app , I just wish I knew something about programming.... )
and I note that there is ALREADY a "forum checker" mini-app already available for some other Mac forum. Golly, has AI been beaten to the punch?
Darnit, this Konfabulator thing is pretty dang neat....resisting temptation to really like it a LOT. Got a smackeral of Monty Burns in the title after all.....
I want the imbedded into desktop look for my pictures
I love that looks of widgets! <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" /> <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" />
I have, it is basically a PDF outlining the coding and stuff, and a template for making a widget icon....
BY THE WAY: The new MacMinute RSS Reader is nice, but I would like one that is smaller, as it does not have to either go at the top of my screen, or underneath my dock, but hey, whatever, all this stuff is new, and it will improve.... i hope <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" /> <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" /> <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" /> <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" /> <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" />
and for good measure: <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" />

Back on topic, I'm trying to get the NewsTicker to work with CNN.com's rss feed at <a href="http://csociety.purdue.org/~jacoby/XML/CNN_TOP_STORIES.xml" target="_blank">http://csociety.purdue.org/~jacoby/XML/CNN_TOP_STORIES.xml</a> without any luck. Anyone else want to try and get it to parse correctly?
[Edit] Aha! The problem was with the RSS, and not the ticker. I found this: <a href="http://rss.syntechsoftware.com/cnn.xml" target="_blank">http://rss.syntechsoftware.com/cnn.xml</a> and it works fine. (at first I tried <a href="http://www.cnn.com/cnn.rss," target="_blank">www.cnn.com/cnn.rss,</a> but I soon realized that there wasn't much there. Shame on them. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[oyvey]" /> )

Yep, Meteorologist rules. only problem is it gets updated about eleventeen times daily.
