    Entourage v. X!

It works really well with my mailing lists (I get over 100 messages a day, and so far I have over 16,000). Entourage handles it without breaking a sweat.

It's calendar features are also great.

I'm using Mail atm but I'd likely switch to Outlook Express if there was a Carbon version.

    (I don't have Office v.X )

I'm liking PowerMail. And am thinking I may like MailSmith, just tried it MS 1.5 last night. PowerMail has a bunch o ready to use scripts to use in filters and making your own is a little more "intuitive". I like Mail.app's simplicity, but as amorph said, too sluggish. Like SweetMail too, but miss the two pane browser in that. And try as I might, neither SweetMail nor Mail.app will transfer Sent Mail to mailboxes of my choosing.

Whyatt, I know, I been there . But say you want it to transfer mail to a particular person to a particular folder and to someone else to another folder. It just doesn't happen, for me, in these Apps. No prolem in PM though.

Why didn't you just say so in the first place?

I agree with you, mail.app's filters leave much to be desired...

Well do you like mailsmith? It's good that it has a classic version. Does that mean I do not lose messages in dual booting? That's one problem with mail.app.

Also it is good to keep in mind that even though a program might be fine people will have different preferences. Take illustrator and freehand - people will argue about relative merits endlessly when, in fact, they are both good.

I just don't like mail.app. I like outlook express. Entourage is too expensive. I would like something that I could use in OS 9 and 10. It seems like Eudora and Mailsmith are my only (native) choices. Is MailSmith any good?

I've just really started to scratch the surface with it. But so far so good. Filtering looks really good. It's just done a little differently than in PM and Eudora. Don't have OS 9 on the 'book so can't tell how it works in that.

two features that are keeping me in mail and not entourage are the new mail indicator in the dock and the fact that you can customize the toolbar to hold only the tools you need. i can't stand the infinite amount of buttons in entourage that contain tons of features i'll never even consider using...

no, actually i didn't. the toolbar thing annoyed me too quickly to even let it sit and get new mail...but sure, the numbers are nice...

    Thats one word

And I wish they would carbonize Outlook Express. Entourage, while it works well has too many features for me that I will never use and is cluttered. However, I will have to look into Eudora and Pegasus. Mail is just sooo annoying, they should make the UI behave more like iTunes.

Dude, I respect that. I mainly use Mail.app, but keep your eyes on GNUmail.

It is part of the GNUStep project. It runs on GNUStep, Linux, and OS X. Its lightweight and does it all. Its still in early stages, but it is very well made.

One word: Sucks. I really hate Pegasus mail. I'd use ANY mail client before using pegasus. I've never used a version for the Mac (do they even make it??), but if it's anything like the windows version, I'd prefer to use the U.S. Postal Service.

No no no! Don't actually use Pegasus! (I don't think it's for Mac anyway) That's just what I use, since school has it.

For my needs, Eudora (currently 5.1b21) is the only good solution. Eudora has powerful customizable filters. For my situation, Eudora deals with multiple accounts better than the other apps. Eudora has a simple Mac-like interface instead of the chaos of Entourage. Finally, Eudora stores messages and attachments separately in a stable and accessible format.

    Eudora rules!

I like Mail.app, but its filters aren't powerful enough for me.

I use Eudora. Have for a long time. Have no problems with it.

Will use Microsoft products only as a last resort.

    There you have it.

I only started using MacOS X extensively a couple of weeks ago, but Mail.app seems to suit my needs quite well; I transitioned over my old mailbox from Netscape without a hitch, and connected it up to a couple of POP accounts, and I'm good to go -- for the most part.

The only issue I've had is with Address Book.app... It's very spartan, and just a little bit buggy. In my opinion, it doesn't seem to demonstrate the same level of effort on Apple's part as does Mail.app. For what it's worth, I went ahead and posted a lengthy feedback to Apple's website outlining the problems I've had -- but I have yet to see any positive results from any of the feedbacks I've submitted. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
