I'm all for updating the Happy Mac, but I wish it kept the personified touch of the Happy Mac instead of the corporate logo. Makes sense to show the apple logo, but the smiley face was a great little touch.
I thought the Happy Mac was part of the firmware, rather than the OS.

Also, if you look closely, the Happy Mac in 10.x is different than the one in OS 9.x. The background is also solid gray instead of they patterned false gray.
Are we completely sure that that will be the boot screen in the final version?
I really hope not, its fairly dull. Even a "hello" under the Apple logo would have been better. And that new Mac face seen in earlier builds grows on you.

It's in 6C106, which is a very late build, so I suppose this *is* the final version.
And it looks much better in real life than it does in Brad's video.

I miss Happy Mac.
The new bootscreen just "fits" better with the style of the current mac hardware... the happymac is dead. Long-lived the happy mac
It's really quite boring. A flat dark gray Apple logo against a lighter gray background, with the new rotating throbber in the center.

rotating throbber
Could someone elaborate please!

http://www.apple.com/macosx/ - It's a large version of that throbber in the center of the countdown timer.

It needs QT6.
A modern approach!
How do you make a count down clock in quicktime?

No words makes it work for any language.

THe newer smiley mac was far better.
I always tell people "oh, well MY computer SMILES at me when I turn it on"
Now it just . . . is there.
Being an apple.
Ugh.
I think this startup is pretty much professional and fantastic.
Somehow reminds me about the startup of a sgi....
Nothing more attractive than that stuff ...
(besides the price/performance ratio *G* on sgi)
Apple just gets better and better ...
Cheers
