Guys, MOSR plainly states that the mock up is based on the avaible desciptions and some kid did it. They are not saying that mock up is the next iMac, only that will will be similar to the ideas behind it. Tilting monitor, small thick base, etc.

I wouldn't get your hopes up on the G5. I really would like to see one also, but I think we'll have the G4 to kick around for a little while longer. I think the main evidence is that the OS X 10.2 isn't going to be release late 2nd Q. This is the build that is reported to have the 64 bit support if I'm not mistaken.
Not to knock the ability, but in the mock up, it's off balance and is about to fall backwards. Also, it will rock like a rocking chair. So don't use it in a room with a fan or with the AC vent pointed towards the desk. Sorry, but the design is not practical.

hey, colors were a great idea... but also an awful idea all at the same time. i mean, i still really like the tangerine shell of the original "Yum" 5, but i ended up buying the graphite imac dv se... but if i had a way of easily buying a different colored shell, i might have one around, and switch it every once in a while -- if it was designed to be EASILY replaced.
but apple had to make models in all the colors equally, until they could figure out which ones sold the best, causing a LOT of waste.
though i would still like to find a cheap grape imac dv somewhere. put a fat hard drive in there, and it'd still be a spiffy little 'puter. heck, you could probably buy a dirt-cheap flower power, and just paint the interior of the shell black -- would you still be able to see the flower pattern? i wonder how that would look???

In this thread and the one that you originally posted the mockup in you've been arguing with everyone who doesn't agree with you. You gotta realize just because you think something it doesn't mean everyone has to agree. Just calm down and don't make comments about people because they don't share your opinion.
imagine the back of this mock-up stretched deeper, at least along the base (to accommodate the depth of a CD, the main guts and USB, Firewire, etc. connections). The cooling chimney would be split if the CD stay centered and horizontal. Until tomorrow when I might have the energy to sketch something:

Anyway, I'd really like to see an iBook-styled LCD display with pivot on a long rod with a counterbalance on the otherside, connected to a stand, the base of which contains optical drives and I/O. Kinda like this one (possibly B+O) Apple Design prototype of the early to mid 90s, if I knew where a picture of it was I would post.
In Michael's mock-up, the problem isn't weight, it's the center of gravity -- a problem of torque. Plus even in the best case, it could roll with a good push or knock. However, you can turn this into an advantage by allowing the screen angle to be adjusted this way. It's just a matter of how you hold it in place once you've adjusted it.

I am sure it would be. And if not you could ether make the drive angaled into the back or just have the Drive on the side.
