I had ordered silver 16GB(AT&T) online for delivery between 9/27-10/1.  But I just couldn't wait and shopped around and found Space Grey 16GB at a local Radio Shack and I actually love the color.  Fingerprint sensor isn't just a gimmick - it's truly convenient and easy to setup/use.  I love the feel of the sapphire button, as well.  The battery seems to be great (I had a terrible experience with iPhone 5 last year for which I exchanged the phone 2 times to get the non-defective battery).

Initially, I was disappointed that it wasn't larger, but after two full days of 5S, I'm a very happy owner.

I wonder how many 5S's they made knowing they were going to sell out. Maybe they made 5 Million units ahead of time. I'm sure Apple will release their first weekend numbers since they are typically not as embarrassing as say, Microsoft or Samsung first weekend numbers.

I checked them out at the apple store yesterday. I'll admit it -- I like the 5c design better than the 5s. It feels so solid.

I'm still going with the 5s though. The new camera and fingerprint win for me.

You are not the only one. I really wish Apple had put the 5S hardware inside of a 5C chassis

Does anyone know if you can purchase 5S outright without a contract and order it online?

To lazy to go to Apple.com to find out!

FWIW, I went to the Apple store today at noon to deal with a small issue and they were still getting sporadic shipments in every couple hours or so, but as fast as they arrived, they sold out. There was still a line to purchase the 5s, though it was only 5 or 10 people long.

When I arrived at 11:30 am I heard the guy in the front of the store tell the waiters that they had just sold out....but he recommended they not leave.

By 11:50, the FedEx guy arrived (Apple Store Northridge) with another small shipment.

I really think they are shoving them off the line and into the airplanes as fast as they can.

Yesterday I overheard an employee say (three hours into sale day) "We haven't sold a single 5c yet..."

I would not mind buying the iPhone 5c, if I cannot get hold of a gold iPhone 5s, but with the current price of the 5c so near that of the 5s, I cannot help feeling I am getting ripped off. So I will keep my iPhone 5 for now (already have the amazing IOS7 on it), and wait for the iPhone 6 with a bigger screen towards the end of 2014.

so when are the pundits and analysts going to realize Touch ID is a genuine "killer feature" that has just iced the sales of high-end Android phones?

    Monday?
Hopefully soon, I'm ready to turn the lock screen password off on my iphone 5 because I'm sick of typing it in

Are you sure Apple will make a biggerScreen iPhone by then?

I would have really liked to see a black plastic version but with 64/(128 ideally) gb, a7, fingerprint, dual flash...

I started with the iPhone 3G (16gb), and now have the 4s(64 gb). I prefer the feel/smoothness of the 3G, compared to the hard edges of the 4s - even though I thought I would have preferred the hard edges... I haven't used the 5 with the chamfered edges, but I still think rounded corners are a better idea.
Nevertheless, my contract is not up for another year and there's no (super)compelling to jump specs as I find the 4s still great - even with ios 7.... For now anyways.

    Bring on the iPad announcements

This has to be one of the most random and pointless posts that I've ever had the misfortune to read here.

The UK Apple stores are completely out and there was never any stock online (it started as dispatch in 7-10 working days from China). However, it seems that the carriers still have some stock left if you're willing to sign up to a new contract.
Yes agree, there was never any stock online in the UK, so they may as we'll call it a Pre-order in the UK from the 20th!! Dissappinting , does this mean Apple no longer sees the UK as a key market?
Come on Jony I've, this is your birth country, put your foot down son!!

Actually you quite literally *are* typing idiotic capitalizations.

Selling out of the 5s is good, but it looks like inventory was very low.  I am pretty confident Apple made a huge amount of 5c so if they were to run out it would be big.

I dont think there is any way to guess how many they sold over the weekend, it could below or above last year number of 5 millions.  There is only one thing I am sure of, the stock will move big on monday and this is why I played both sides for that news. I did an option straddle at 2 different expiration dates. The short side is on the weekly and the long side is in April 2014.

I have been lucky in the past months. Bought at $420, sold all at $502 at iphone 5 launch.  Bought at $470 and $455 and sold last week at $475. My play for next week is an option straddle and I plan to ride the stock for the ipads later.
Uh, at the iPhone 5 launch the stock was $700. If you sold at $500, you are either a fool or a liar, or both. Either way, you are not as smart as you think you are.

I stood in line yesterday and bought my 5S directly from my apple store. Best smartphone I've ever owned.

Today there were still lines of people waiting for 5S.

    Here are my quick observations:

There was very little interest in the 5C except from children.

The 5C looked and felt like plastic. Not my cup of tea and that was a major negative point from other adults I talked to at the store.

Most 5C that actually sold (and even the Apple employees admitted it was a slow seller at the store) were parents buying for kids. Some parents opted to buy their kids 5S instead though.

Anyway all that to say. The 5S is an amazing smartphone the most innovative small device I've ever used. Use touch ID a few times and you'll feel the magic I'm talking about. But the 5C on the other hand. Still a head scratcher in my book.

It's not helping Apple's image. It doesn't look that great. And it's not selling well. It may be selling better than last years 4S but that's not saying much IMO.
Wow I had the complete opposite reaction when I felt a 5C in my hand. Almost felt like ceramic to me. There is a thread on MacRumors of 5C owners and people are really likening it. In fact I've seen some people wishing the 5S came in the 5C body.

Apple probably figured a fresh look version of the iP 5 would sell somewhat better than just the same old thing. and normally that would be true.

what may not be normal is the 5s might be a real sensation.

I also think the 5C is helping 5S sales.

If Apple had the iPhone 5 at $99 more people would settle for a phone almost as fast that looks the same.

Now with the 5C looking different and being plastic consumers are deciding they "might as well" pony up the extra $100 for the 5S rather than settling.

Probably not the expected outcome but it's good for Apple I would assume.

    What about the Government's orders?
Governments of many countries are buying iPhone 5s' in huge quantities.

    What about the corporation's orders?
Corporations in many countries are buying iPhone 5s' in huge quantities.

    What about the school's orders?
Naahh, the schools of many countries are waiting for 64 bit iPads to buy in huge quantities.

How is Apple gonna build all of these? Pegatron? Foxconn?

    Time will tell.

Thanks for the observations. Very well said. I think the younger set and up through high school and even some college may be the market for the 5c. Now, have a couple companies release game controllers for the 5c and a couple really HOT games get released in the next 2-3 months and Apple may end up eating Samsung's lunch and toasting the rest of the Android smart phones' marsh mellows between now and the end of December.

The 5c makes the Google MotoMo color palette look sickly by comparison.

    I could see that.

It was hilarious how young teenage girls were screaming over how cute the pink 5C was.

Adults and parents didn't get it, especially with the 5S only a little more expensive.
