Apple TV special events channel launches hours ahead of 'iPhone 6' & 'iWatch' event
As Apple gears up for what at least one national news channel has called a "historic" announcement, the iPhone maker has re-added its own Special Events channel the Apple TV, providing interested consumers with another avenue for watching the event unfold live.
The channel is predictably sparse, given its single-purpose mission, providing a countdown to Tuesday's event as well as the ability to rewatch previous Apple keynotes. Its icon has been updated to match the stark Apple artwork that adorns the latest event-related materials.
Apple is widely expected to introduce at least one model of the next-generation iPhone --?possibly two, with a 5.5-inch "phablet" device joining the 4.7-inch variant --?alongside as the long-anticipated "iWatch" and a new iTunes-backed mobile payment system. The second-generation iPad Air has been rumored to make an appearance as well, though that has gone largely unsubstantiated.
In addition to second- and third-generation Apple TVs, interested parties can watch the live stream on Apple's website, where it has taken over top billing. Viewers will need Safari 5.1.10 or later on OS X 10.6.8 or later, or iOS 6.0 or later if watching from an iPhone or iPad.
AppleInsider will be on hand at the Flint Center in Cupertino and will bring live coverage of Tuesday's announcements.

BREAKING: new shot from inside the conference hall. Now freed from Microsoft’s wrath, Ballmer is able to express his love for the real OS of his dreams.
The Android troll army (sometimes referred to as Orcs) is massing somewhere near Cupertino. If you listen you can hear them sharpening their weapons, see their campfires, smell their stench. The battle for Middle Silicon Valley is approaching. The trolls have been busy getting their comments copied to their clipboards so they can drop identical posts in numerous threads. It’s the same old nonsense but they are Orcs after all. The minute Cook steps on stage they will attack. Tech websites everywhere will be set ablaze.
Who will defend against them? Are you an Orc or an Elf? I feel more like an Ent.
Oh come on, we know from all the stats they are mostly under 13 years old ... no need to fear them, just throw candy.
EDIT: Cheap candy of course ....
It is always at these sort of momentous occasions the time zone thing hits home. After 25 years in the States I still get mind blown over it when chatting with friends in the UK and France. Just think, it is 9 a.m. EST and the people of Papeete have already started watching Tim!
Yeah, I must be crazy, because I am up at 3:00 AM Wednesday morning In Australia to catch the Tim Cook feed.
But I did the same for Stevo for many years, so Tim deserves the same respect.
And no... I do not know the score for last night's (Tuesday's) game! Argh...who are you people?
Advantage of being GMT+ 5.5 hours is that I can watch this with peace of mind at Home after the kids are all asleep, not trying to watch it stealthily in the office, looking over my shoulder!
Of course, that's where the advantage ends. When it comes to getting the iThing in the hands, you guys have all the advantage!
Maybe not this year, but next?

Perhaps it's just me, but it seems that when the word "Historic" is thrown into the mix - that means something SUBSTANTIAL is going to be introduced that hasn't previously been showcased.
In my opinion, and it's only MY opinion, that if ABC wants to throw around the word "historic" - and then Apple comes out with 4.7" and a 5.5" phones....... and a watch....... nothing there is historic at all, save the fact that Apple is finally caving to pressure from the consumers to introduce bigger screens. The watch has already been done by more than one vendor - so regardless of what other might say here, they're late to the party on this. They might and probably will end up doing it better, but collectively, none of these items is historic. So ABC running with that word ends up either really being on the mark and we're going to see something mind blowing - IE: They finally drop the Apple TV in all of its glory (hence the big stage etc) or..... maybe..... maybe ABC embarrasses Apple by really making a big deal out of nothing really special. Don't get me wrong - Apple makes some pretty incredible gear. I write this on my Macbook Air, and while I've had it a year, every time I pick it up I have a grin on my face. Is it just me, or was the last time Apple did something TRULY historic - was when they introduced the iPhone? Steve stated that they finally solved the mystery of the TV and was very excited about it. It's been almost 3 years since his passing.. Perhaps we'll get to see some more of his genius. THAT would be historic... (why else would ABC be involved here with the exclusive interview?)
If an iPhone 5.5" is announced, you'll have to replace Steve with Sog35!
I guess it is a matter of opinion. I thought WWDC this year was historic.
Maybe some of these ...
Mmm ... Who own's ABC?
Mmm ... Who's CEO sits on Apple's board?
Mmm ... Who's the largest shareholder in the above company?
Indeed - poor question posed on my behalf. She certainly has a lot to do with it - but I stand by my opinion of the use of "historic". Clearly they know something we don't. Good times all the way round. I sure miss Steve doing these sessions though.
Apple is announcing the purchase of Laurene Powell-Jobs!
Wait…
You'll know it's really, really big if the Mac Dev Center goes down too ...
Now, who's up for a little playtime?
Everything Apple has ever done, including the iPhone, had been done before. Apple's (read Steve Jobs') genius is to take something that has already been done and revolutionize it.
At this point, we may have to tip our collective hats to sog35. Even Skil. That would be the gentlemanly thing to do.
I don’t recall denying a 5.5”, just saying that it’s an absolutely terrible idea. I’ll tip something if I can be proven wrong in real-world utility, however. No problems there.
