They were from old AI, so they aren't in any of Dorsal M's posts. A while ago, someone posted all of Dorsal's posts from old AI, and I saved them. (I can send the rest to you if you want.) I think that the repost was long enough ago that it was automatically deleted.
And beige plastic is the new brushed aluminum......<shudder>....what a thought...sorry, going full circle there.
Back on track, shall we?
Ports instead of vents? Good idea, but with Apple's track-record the looks are more important than the functionality.
"We listened" is something that Steve said about something or other recently. Maybe it was about spring-loaded folders. Maybe it was about something else too. But the "we're listening" thing has yet to show up in a resounding thunderclap.
I'll expect front-mounted jacks when I see a faster system bus, a multi-button mouse, blah, blah, blah, (the usual running list of tricked out bits). THAT'S when I'll expect to see tricked-out bits.
This one can be then next one for all I care right now.
Acctually I disagree with you there. I think Mr. Ives has a touch of sympathy for me and my ilk. The iMac and the iBook (which i proudly use and love) both have a very tasteful glossy look to them. I wouldn't assume so quickly that all the Pro equipment will be metal.
I don't think its an unreasonable assumption, the G4 Powerbook and the Xserve are both pro eqiupment and they both have metal styling. The iMac and iBook are both consumer and are both Consumer Grade, and both Glossy and White. Based on this it would be rational to assume that the Power Macs would be of Metal looks and curves.
However, is the Power mac an exclusively pro machine? No, it isn't. Many people buy the towers not for their specs but also for their expandablity, and at least partially out of style considerations. The PowerMacs are a line of Prosumer devices, intended to bridge the gap between the two schoold of devices.
I wouldn't be surprised if you were right, and i wouldn't be surprised if the prototype pics were closer to the mark. Personally I'm hoping for Glossy white - Have you seen that white keyboard? Its pretty slick.
Actually Colors are the new beige...and white is the new colors...white with chrome accents.
The colors branched off into greyish colors which denoted pro line...or SE. Which turned into metal and gleaming silvery stuff you have on the current PM. Which will go metal pretty soon.

If all of the vents are not needed for cooling, might this be a (probably unintentional) "third party opportunity"? Might we see expansion cards which utilize them?

No but you have to admit that a keyboard like the current Apple Pro Keyboard with chromed over keys would look pretty cool. But the keys might turn into 108 little concave mirrors that would burn out your eyes...I can see the law suits coming.
<strong>There is no way the new powerma is going to be white....think about it.
Pro line :
Xserve : metal
PowerBook : metal
PowerMac : metal
there's no way they're going to make it white

iBook : white
what do you want them to call it an iPowerMac?

Yeah I agree, whole heartedly. I am especially fond of the XServe style mock up of the next PowerMac. As for displays, it is possible for brushed aluminum ones, but seeing as most people keep their tower under a desk and monitors on top, it wouldn't be a problem.

Maybe a dark grey, like Quicksilver would be closer to the truth there.
I dont know... It looks good, but it doesnt flow very well.. Oh well. Could someone tell me why there is an image overlayed on the screen? And what would be the purpose of the 'vents' on the front? The current cooling system would be sufficient for any G4.... those would almost certainly have to be ports, and why are the bays so tall?I'm 50/50 on this....

Yeah, a chrome keyboard would rock, but that would mean i would need to buy new curtains again ...
<strong>Can some one post that X-Serve Style Tower against the mock-up of this one...
