hamartia is usually a flaw based on a characters strength.

I.E. Hamlets greatest strength was that he thought everything out. The story would have had a happy (ish) ending had he just killed his uncle rather than thinking it through. (in the church)

The El Capitans greatest strength is probably it's expandibility, so it makes sense to me that it would be referring to a cube (trinity) without as much expandibility.

I think if the author knew about an upcoming apple console system he would have included "pippin" in the riddle somewhere.

Really. I would be surprised if the author intended such a specific connotation. The fancy word may have been used simply to obfuscate identity.

Been burning some brain cells on this... Give this a read...

Okay I think some get it but others are still falling into the trap...

These riddles use code names or words that also had meaning to Apple code names and I think they were used to help add to the confusion.

    Example:

Trinity: (I'll choose to use the 2nd def)

    - could have been the Apple G4 Cube

    - could also be AIM

Dolphin: (I'll choose to use the 2nd def)

    - could be some waterproof laptop (rumored long ago - 1999?)

    - could be the Flipper an ATI bridge chip used in the Game Cube. (also dolphin)

Artemis: (I'll choose to use the 2nd def)

    - could be the AOI (All In One G3 - pre-iMac/eMac)

    - could be a reference to the G3 CPU itself (used in the AIO)

Artemis' Twin (apollo): (only one choice)

    - could be the G4

    Goldfish: (only one choice)

    - could be the G5

El Capitan: (I'll choose to use the 2nd def)

    - could be the G3/G4 style flip down case

    - could be something else Steve Jobs himself maybe??

    Pie: (only choice)

    - could be (is?) Apple PI (ala NMR/TGB report) Apple processor interconnect.

Great Desert: (I'll choose to use the 2nd def)

    - could be the new G3 (code name Sahara)

    - could also be .... something else but don't wanna say just yet.

Rosetta: (seems to fit plus rumor author even said so)

    - could be (is) Inkwell / Ink

Now finally these riddles were all posted under a thread that was speculating about the G5. Using some of the less Apple oriented defs that I've indicated above...

    --------------------

"A little bird told that Trinity shall return, after eating pie, more voluminous than a dolphin..."

AIM shall return after they incorporate Apple PI that has more throughput than the PPC/Flipper used in the game cube.

    --------------------

    --------------------

"El Capitan's hamartia shall lead to Trinity's return and its rise to the throne, Its little brother shall rule in the great desert where the dolphins roam."

Steve Jobs tragic flaw (selecting MOTs idea for the G4?) shall lead to AIM getting back together and its (the the G5's) rise to the throne as the CPU to beat the successors little brother a lower end version of this new G5 successor (maybe a G3+Altivec+ApplePi) shall rule in the XXXX (great desert) where the ATI Flipper (dolphins) roam. (the next game cube and the prosumer Apple computers iMac eMac and maybe something new will be powered by a new low power (less costly etc) version of the new G4-successor/G5).

    --------------------

    --------------------

"The filling shall reveal a crust made from the Rosetta Stone."

That something new device will make use of Ink.

    --------------------

    --------------------

"When the third sucessor of Artemis shall eat pie in the great desert, Artemis' twin shall rein with the agile Mercury and the obstinate Mercury before being eaten by the goldfish and this shall signal Trinity's return."

When the 3rd revision of the G3 one that will support Apple Processor Interconnect (plus altivec - kinda like the CPU used in the game cube) in the XXXX (great desert) the G4 will be used in the iBook and the Ti book the G5 (goldfish) will be released and this will all be done with Apple IBM and Motorola working together.

    --------------------

"The filling shall reveal a crust made from the Rosetta Stone."

    This is so obvious:

"The software is Mac OS X."

Witch has crust made from Rosetta Stone, ie Inkwell.

I've recieved some cryptic info in my In-Box this morning... I'll post it here.

"The tales of the ancient world continue. You are lucky to be the prophet of these tales to the faithful, as you will certainly be praised for them.

    --------------

Artemis the Second and his wife journeyed across the sea in his ship to find riches to present to his son. The son found that he had only room in his house for the petrified ice, and so the other riches were saved for the unborn grandson.

Artemis the Third's son was born, and had red hair. His parents both had blond hair, and he was deemed to be illegitamate. He was named Sardonyx instead of Artemis the Fourth, and his father abandoned him and his mother.

    --------------

Cleopatra demanded that Ceaser build her an army, and Ceaser refused. Cleopatra turned to Marc Antony, who promised to do this. Ceaser then scorned her and withdrew his army, which protected Cleopatra, from Egypt.

    --------------

When the rosetta stone was discovered, it was found that new equipment had to be built to make copies. By chance, a new University was being planned. The plans were changed to accomodate the new equipment in the building.

    --------------

The philosiphers pondered over worthless theories on how to increase taxes in the ancient world. The ancient rulers tired of this, and replaced them with scientists. Even the scientists proved worthless, and were replaced by economists. The economists advised the rulers to wait before taking action, as this was not the right time to upset the system."

Okay so I'm a sucker for this kinda stuff... sue me.

    --------------

Artemis the Second and his wife journeyed across the sea in his ship to find riches to present to his son. The son found that he had only room in his house for the petrified ice, and so the other riches were saved for the unborn grandson.

    --------------

This talks about updates to the G3 line of CPUs

    Artemis = G3

Petrified Ice = Diamond (CPU Used in Game Cube) has a 'mini-altivec'

Unborn Grandson = Next update of the G3 will have the rest of the 'riches' ... full altivec+ApplePI?

    --------------

Artemis the Third's son was born, and had red hair. His parents both had blond hair, and he was deemed to be illegitamate. He was named Sardonyx instead of Artemis the Fourth, and his father abandoned him and his mother.

    --------------

Sardonyx is a reference to a type of Quartz.

This 4th gen G3 was so different G3+AltiVec+ApplePI that it will be a whole 'new' CPU not considered part of the 'true' G3 line of CPUs.

    --------------

Cleopatra demanded that Ceaser build her an army, and Ceaser refused. Cleopatra turned to Marc Antony, who promised to do this. Ceaser then scorned her and withdrew his army, which protected Cleopatra, from Egypt.

    --------------

Apple wanted MOT to support a new faster processor interconnect (ApplePI) MOT couldn't/wouldn't do it and so Apple went to IBM.

    Cleopatra = Apple

    Ceaser = MOT

Army = Faster Processor Interconnect (ApplePI)

    Marc Anthony = IBM

Egypt could be nothing but it could be the CPU upgrade makers... MOT is now selling to them.

    --------------

When the rosetta stone was discovered, it was found that new equipment had to be built to make copies. By chance, a new University was being planned. The plans were changed to accomodate the new equipment in the building.

    --------------

Maybe this is a clue that rosetta stone doesn't really connect to Inkwell / Ink at all. In fact the more I think about that it makes sence. Those riddles above all used Apple code names as a way to confuse and rosetta could very well be one too.

With that in mind maybe 'university' really means 'chip fab' (like IBM's new building in NY) so if that's the case then ROSETTA is not ink but instead a new 'cpu process' or 'method of mfg'.

Hmm that makes a whole lot more sense!

Rosetta could be the .09 chip process...

    --------------

Sounds like a delay a due to the economy. Steve Jobs has infact used such 'hints' for a while now. Question is do we see the light and the end of this dark tunnel or are we to wait some more? The fact that IBM is gonna talk about these chips might be a good sign.

Interesting Barto... Hmm I wonder how this stull ended up in your mailbox...

Something that just came to me...

The person (code name) who 1st posted those riddles even went as far as to give a 'clue' when he posted the 'rosetta' riddle. He linked to those screen shots about inwell/rosetta running on OS X (old pics - 1999 I think)

Could it be that 'code name' was NOT the author of those riddles in the first place and didn't know how to solve them either and thus posted them here?

It's looking more and more like rosetta as used above is NOT a reference to Ink (just got lucky that it was finally released) but instead to the .09 mfg process that will be used to make the new IBM CPU's?

All of these riddles seem to talk about CPU's and then we have this...

"The filling shall reveal a crust made from the Rosetta Stone."

Sorry but this isn't talking about pen based input... this is the new mfg process.

    Ahhh I feel better now...

    Dave

Heck 'code name' never (fully) knew how to solve those riddles either. He knew they were tied to the PPC but given his rosetta 'hint' he sure didn't know everything.

The question is... Who gave 'codename' those riddles and why? (I think I might know that...)

    Barto:

I remain suspect of these new "riddles."

1: They do not sound syntactically like the previous ones.

2: The "code names" (or terms with which we are meant to make associations) are much more of a stretch.

3: Anyone who can spell hamartia and voluminous (and everything else) correctly, would not in any case twice misspell Caesar, a much more common word. Cf: "philosiphers" sic

4: Artemis is a goddess who would not have a wife.

5: Sardonyx is an interesting name, and plainly tailored to lend credibility to this pile of hogwash. Yes, sardonyx is a kind of quartz, and also, one might check out <a href="http://www.sardonyx.net/"; target="_blank">this.</a>

Yet more appropriately, one might check out <a href="http://www.m-w.com"; target="_blank">THIS, (and enter "sardonic").</a>

Better yet, I will do it for you:

    Main Entry: sar·don·ic

    Pronunciation: sär-'dä-nik

    Function: adjective

Etymology: French sardonique, from Greek sardonios

    Date: 1638

    disdainfully or skeptically humorous : derisively mocking &lt;a sardonic comment&gt; &lt;his sardonic expression&gt;

    synonym see SARCASTIC

Make of it what you will.

I have to agree with Mandricard here. The "Sardonyx" name tripped me up, too, and the constant mixing in of contemporary language.

I'll allow for the possibility that it's a different (authentic) source trying to mimic the original one, but it smells like a hoax to me.

I agree with Mandricard and Amorph. A copycat. Interesting reading though.

Yes, what I posted was typed up by myself in 5 minutes, it's not some mysterious e-mail. I was curious to find out what people would think of the supposed info, as the riddles actually had meanings (completely baseless though).

Artemis the Second and his wife journeyed across the sea in his ship to find riches to present to his son. The son found that he had only room in his house for the petrified ice, and so the other riches were saved for the unborn grandson.

The 600MHz 14" iBook and his 12" wife found riches for their son, the 700MHz 14" iBook. However, it was found that only petrified ice (which is what the Romans believed Quartz was - refering to the RADEON Mobility) could fit in his house. Other new technology was saved for the current iBook's successor.

Artemis the Third's son was born, and had red hair. His parents both had blond hair, and he was deemed to be illegitamate. He was named Sardonyx instead of Artemis the Fourth, and his father abandoned him and his mother.

The next iBook was born, and had RED hair. The current iBooks have blond (white) hair. The son is smaller (being a baby) than his parents. His father, the 14" iBook, leaves the family. Sardonyx is red and white striped agate. So the next iBook family will be a 12" white model, and a smaller red and white model.

Cleopatra demanded that Caeser build her an army, and Caeser refused. Cleopatra turned to Marc Antony, who promised to do this. Caeser then scorned her and withdrew his army, which protected Cleopatra, from Egypt.

Apple demanded Motorola build a desktop G5, and Motorola refused. Apple then turned to IBM, who agreed. Motorola then stopped all work on the G4.

When the rosetta stone was discovered, it was found that new equipment had to be built to make copies. By chance, a new University was being planned. The plans were changed to accomodate the new equipment in the building.

The laptop Superdrive (reads and writes CDs/-Rs/-RWs and DVDs/-Rs/-RWs) is a tray loading model. By chance, a new PowerBook is being designed, and has been changed to support tray loading drive because of this.

The philosophers pondered over worthless theories on how to increase taxes in the ancient world. The ancient rulers tired of this, and replaced them with scientists. Even the scientists proved worthless, and were replaced by economists. The economists advised the rulers to wait before taking action, as this was not the right time to upset the system.

Managers tried to increase Mac revenue by increasing prices (iMac and PowerBook), but couldn't. Engineers tried to by innovating, but this hasn't helped much. Executives speculated about "upsetting the system" by switching to x86 or another architecture, but decided that it's too soon after the switch to X.

I'm sure there is a moral to this story somewhere...

The following is a non-inclusive list of guidelines specific to each forum.

    Future Hardware:

The purpose of the Future hardware forum is to contain focused technical and aesthetic speculation about future Apple hardware products. Generalized discussions about future technologies should be posted here as well, as long as they are relevant to potential Apple products.

    - Due to the high traffic that FH receives, it is preferable to contain discussion of future products to a minimum of threads on a particular topic: there should not be 10 different threads about upcoming PowerBooks, for instance. However, threads discussing particular aspects of a future product can coexist.

    - Threads consisting of unsubstantiated individual predictions about upcoming hardware are not allowed. Threads that are blatant trolls, offer no content, or are redundant will be locked at the moderators' discretion.

This is a fun thread. In fact, lets see more people post riddles and everyone else try to guess what they mean.

This is a thread about riddles posted by "codename" about Future Hardware (mostly). I posted what I did in the same thread (it seemed relevent), and 1/2 a day later posted that I'd typed it myself. It's not like I pretended *cough*allenmcjoneskormac77dorsalm*cough* to have this contact (although I have 2 real ones - my posts of them are written to be much more serious than the above) for long, I've let everyone know after only 1/2 a day.

My post just shows that from riddles you can interperate them in many different ways, and it's FUN to do so. This is a FUN thread.

Last time I checked, you're a "member", not a "moderator".

    Just wanted to add that:

    Mercury = Quicksilver

given that Goldfish = Moto G5

and Artemis = AIO G3 (Also note that Artemis twin in greek mythology is Apollo, which as you probably know is the G4+.)

    I get:

"A little bird told that Trinity shall return, after eating pie, more voluminous than a dolphin..."

A new cube is comming, and it's bigger. It is in fact bigger than the Nintendo gamecube. It will use a processor that has the new apple PI bus (or whatever apple PI is...)

"El Capitan's hamartia shall lead to Trinity's return and its rise to the throne, Its little brother shall rule in the great desert where the dolphins roam."

El Capitans flaw (high production cost) is the reason why apple uses a cube-like case in the new powermacs (remember Dorsals posts about this, long ago?) There will also be a smaller version of the case, perhaps the same as the old cube, perhaps slightly larger to accomodate standard components. It will use a sahara processor or one of its successors/derivates.

"When the third sucessor of Artemis shall eat pie in the great desert, Artemis' twin shall rein with the agile Mercury and the obstinate Mercury before being eaten by the goldfish and this shall signal Trinity's return."

The emac (or imac2? -it did come before the emac, but it's also a different beast, kind of.) or its successor gets the abovementioned sahara succsessor/derivate with apple PI. At the time there'll be Quicksilvers with two kinds of apollo G4, one of which will use a faster bus (the agile), and one of which will still use the MPX bus (the obstinate one -in the low end model) Alternative: one has 167 MHz bus, and one still has a 133MHz bus (also very obstinate IMHO). Shortly after the emac (or possibly imac2) gets the abovementioned processor upgrade, the G5 (goldfish) will replace the G4 in powermacs. This will signal the introduction of the new cube cases.

I think this was all planned at one point, but plans have probably changed since. The riddle posts are all fairly old aren't they?

Edit: Added Artemis explanation in the beginning.

    I have entered this thread way too late to catch up completely, but so far I have these questions for those of you that have been in this thread from the beggining, because i couldn't keep up with all of it all at once;

    1) With reference to "When the third sucessor of Artemis shall eat pie in the great desert, Artemis' twin shall rein with the agile Mercury and the obstinate Mercury before being eaten by the goldfish and this shall signal Trinity's return." If it has been stated in here that Artemis may refer to the G4, could the "Twin" be a connection to the new Dual G4's? If 'Goldfish' really is the code name for the G5, does it mean that the G5 will come and surpass the Dual G4 machines, which means it will soon be time for the Trinity to return (G5 Cube  )? Note: I don't have any strong feelings that this will happen just because of this riddle, it's the only combination I haven't seen yet in this thread.

    2) How do we know that the topic starter, DaveGee, isn't the mysterious "code name"? <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" /> meh.. too much planning

    3) Quickly reading this thread seems very cult like. Is this a sign that AI members are a bit too into Apple...?

The third successor of the PowerMac G3 AIO (iMac LCD) shall eat PI in the Sahara, iMacs twin (iBook) will rein with the agile Powerbook G4 and the obstinate PowerMac G4 before being eaten by the IBM chip and this shall signal The Cubes return.

    Weird.

Personally, I don't believe that "trinity" is a reference to the cube. I believe it is a reference to IBM, not AIM, but IBM.
