WWDC and the future of APPLE
Hello.
What if Steve announce New workstation class PowerMac G5 at WWDC ?
He will not do this since this WWDC is for much bigger announcement.
I think we will see something for another POWERMAC G5 just before Siggraph,Aug 8

APPLE Siggraph rumor
Something like this;
SAME case as G5 for one model and larger case for future model
CPU : 4 x 2.5GHZ G5 with liquied cooling.
*Dual core can be applied in future with larger case

Yes, the MCM has 4 dual core CPUs and is quite expensive. But IBM also has a single core SCM that is much cheaper based on the same chip. Remember we are talking about "optioning up" if you need to (*note "not required"). We are also talking about the Power5 definitely going to .90 nanometer this year and reaching 3Ghz. Does that Ghz sound familiar? Also remember that when we go smaller we are talking less energy draw and cheaper to manufacture and sell. If the iMac is about to go G5 it doesn't give a huge lead by having the top of the line towers on the same chip. Hence we replace the chip design on the top end units. The bottom end chips are so fast now even the iBook is G4.
The low end Power5 is 10k as outfitted for server needs with the top of the line indeed reaching beyond 100k. Note that servers have expensive redundancy built into them. You quite often find the same chip in an Wintel server that you have in a cheap desktop with the difference in the cost being made up in high I/O capabilities and redundancy being on board. Skip that overhead and have redundancy through backup services (.Mac) and you can drop the costs significantly.
Apple could continue to offer the units they do today and offer these units as there side by side cousin "future replacements". This would offer a transition time for the consumer and allow Apple to lower costs of these high end machines over time as more of the new units sell.

Comments
1. Quads sound nice. But does that mean we get a new Memory Controller that supports 4 FSBs total? How many DIMM slots would Apple utilize? They can't put in 16 can they?
2. Siggraph- Man Apple has alot of areas they're covering. Should be interesting. They'll probably hightlight OSX Tiger and 3rd party apps.
3. Stay the hell away from 3D Labs. Man that company is in trouble if their messagboard is any indication. I'm afraid they look to be heading down the same road 3dfx did to obscurity.
4. Blue Laser- Apple won't support Blu Ray but I'd count them in on HD-DVD since Apple will be promotion the AVC codec. Though I doubt Apple mentions it at all next year.
5. PCI Express- I think it's a given that the FireGL and Quadro cards will come to Apple. Now that they're ditching ADC I believe this to be coming sooner rather than later.
6. Dual Layer- Another overhyped product. With DL discs at $6 if you can find them I don't understand the hullabaloo over DL discs. I could see if someone said "I'm using DVD Studio Pro and I'm tired of splitting projects over two DVD-5s" but no..often it's some guy that wants to keep up with the jones'.

Why not 16 slots? Tyan has for their Quad Opteron board.
While Quads are a nice concept, I doubt we will see them in a Power Mac.
What kind of bigger announcement are you thinking about for wwdc? I am trying to think of one other than the iMac/Tiger (unless it is a restructuring posited by someone in another thread).

Mandricard

There will be announcement of QuickTime 7 at WWDC and this is One of the KEY component for the future APPLE Product.
NAB 2004 Hardware & Software Prediction from Kormac77

?
QuickTime 7
- New architecture improvement.
-Video
- Improved PIXLET codec for HD preview.
- Possible development for Digital - Movie distribution format.
- More Video Codec wiil be added.
- DVCPRO HD Codec support ( Only on Mac OSX ) :READ FINALCUTPRO 5
- MPEG-2 PS, TS Playback Support ( Optional due to license issue for current situation)
- APPLE might make this option as STANDART if future product will use this.
- MPEG-2 TS file for HD Digital TV can be playback with certain condition.
- Improve MPEG-4 support by MPEG-4 AV codec ( H.264 ) in near future
- MPEG-4 + H.264 will able to play SD, HD mode as WMP9
-Audio
- Multiple Audio track support
- Support Surround Audio
- Embedded Audio support such as Dolby AC-3, DTS
- More Audio Codec Support
- Hardware based accelation from Graphic B/D from 3rd party ,such as ATI.
http://www.ati.com/products/PCIexpress/index.html
- Future plan to support MXF format with import/export fuction.
- More Optimized Streaming.
The key point in this is MPEG-2 TS and MPEG-4 AV ( H.264 )
Also MXF has big part for the production level

There will be announcement of QuickTime 7 at WWDC and this is One of the KEY component for the future APPLE Product.
What do you mean? QuickTime with home streaming through AirPort Express or new video codec?
The latest APPLE Works was modified to support Quicktime7 already.
When it was delivered, the develope team did not know that Quicktime 7 was delayed and the code for importing QuickTime 7 file was already implemented.
IF you have AppleWorks ver6.2.7 or later version.
Check import part of Appleworks.
You should see something new which is not availble now.
Following is part of new file format with QuickTime 7 in Applework import part.
- 3GP2[QT]
- 3GPP[QT]
- AIFC[QT]
-AMC Import[QT]
- AMR[QT]
- APPLE MPEG Component[QT]
- APPLE MPEG-2 Import[QT]
- AutoDesk Animation[QT]
-DV[QT]
- Flash Fix Image[QT]
- GSM Audio Import[QT]
- JFIF[QT]
- Livetype Import[QT]
- MPEG Layer-3 Audio[QT]
- MPEG-4 Import[QT]
-MXF[QT]
-Picture[QT]
-QT PreFlight[QT]
- Realtime Streaming Protocol[QT]
- Session Description Protocol[QT]
- SKIN[QT]
- Shoutcast[QT]
- SMIL[QT]
- VDU Attribute [QT]
Hmmm.... What does this all mean?
Can you guess ? I will talk about it later.
This is for now. See you later.
I like the clean look of using a memory riser. Check this Quad Xeon board out. Perhaps that could be accomplished as well.
I agree on QT7 coming. If you look at the Pro Apps based on QT it's evident that they won't be able to move on to some requested features like multichannel in and better MPEG support without these being added to QT. In fact it's a bit ironice that Apple suddenly has brought Quicktime 6 back to the publics attention. QT7 and Tiger are probably symbiotic in ways that QT and the current OS can only dream of.

Other unexpected format are managed by QT7 like HTML and SGI. By the way QT file format was selected by 3GPP to carry media content.
I read the G5 tower being referred to as 'mid tower'. Sorry, it was online and I can't remember where. It may have been apple store or crucial.

Yeah the memory riser style helps segment things, not in favor of Apple's G5 case, but it helps.

kormac, you seen this yet?
Quicktime and AVC is no suprise. Apple was showing various trailers like Harry Potter and Troy I think in AVC at NAB 2004. I spoke to one guy that said it was phenomenal. The funny thing is people are tooting Microsofts horn over at AVS because those guys are so hard up for HD content but there seems to be some discontent with "banding" in WM9 video. I think AVC is going to be better and it's a natural extension to MPEG which means Hollywood can eschew dealing with Microsoft and it's proprietary codec.
Just as soon as Office has HDTV editing capability.
Sadly, that's all too possible...
"Import" in QT can be thought of synonymous with "Can play".
This is more interesting as just a list of media types and codecs to be found in QT7, not as anything important about AW.
