I spoke to my friend and he is amazed at all the excitement his pics have started.
He says that there was trailers full of stuff, but the few he had to take to a conference suite were already open, like the one in the pic.
I asked him about the box and he said it was all black apart from the logo on the side, but there was a load of tape and stickers on the top and sides.
He sent another pic, but it's the same as the others.
Yes, they've been in photoshop, to resize them down.
Tell your friend that unless he can learn to take a useful, definitive picture from something other than the same damn angle (what, three times now?), we're forced to continue thinking this is all a silly hoax, and that any/all involved parties are quite possibly full of it.
Your "friend" seems quite hung up on that whole "standing above, shooting down at a weird angle where nothing is easily discernible" style of photography, isn't he?
That his trademark shooting style? It'll take him far! Perhaps MOSR and MacWhispers are hiring staff photographers?

Uh-oh! And as if this isn't enough excitement for a Friday, the third (new) picture appears to reveal a spot of BLOOD on the wall directly behind the product!
If these turn out to be fake, which is pretty much the current consensus, you will be eaten alive by these crazed apple fans...
good luck.
Nah, he'll be beheaded and set symbol as a warning to others . The little graphic in the upper right will have pics of the offending heads stuck on pig poles.

Murder most foul. I shall ring the authorities!
Ha, I didn't notice that. Someone here, no doubt, can provide some onscreen blood analysis? They've basically already subjected the photos to every other level of examination, what's a little more?
Hell, I watch "CSI"...I might have a go at it myself later on!

[humor] Well, hoax or not, these photos make it obvious that its video card sucks, it doesn't have enough RAM, it's $500 too expensive, and Doom 3 will play like a slide show. That does it, I'm getting a Dell! [/humor]

Phil, perhaps you could ask your friend what else he noticed on the units (if he didn't take pictures). e.g. what else was in the package, if there were ports on the far side, (esp a disk slot), if it ticked like a bomb, etc.

Arrghh! Now we need some pics of the grassy knoll...

I call no consensus!
I've been into serious rumor mongering for at least 7 years now and am quite conservative in what stories I'll swallow. I also agree that the device depicted in the photos may not be an apple product.
Yet the images don't appear doctored and they weren't accompanied by claims typical to hoaxes. Seems like a non-apple zealot managed to a couple quick snaps with a digital camera because he knew his friend would be interested.
The device in the pictures is also exactly like what many have been expecting of the G5 iMac, an aluminum display enclosure with an enlarge back for components.
One person's skepticism is another's paranoia. Or... One person's acceptance is another's gullibility.
Definitive claims one way or the other say more about the poster than the evidence.
