  • New 24-inch iMac adds M4 chip, nano-texture glass option

    "Storage starts at 256GB"
    Pathetic base storage, as usual.
Apple really needs to be more competitive at this base level.

it isn’t for you Apple offers 256GB because many people are on a tight budget a here and now budget…..

  • Trump's tariffs could drive up iPhone prices by about 10%

The general population of the U.S. was smarter at that time. The current population still hasn't figured out that an anti-regulatory party isn't going to improve economic outcomes for anyone except the rich.
I think it's important to understand that's not actually right. My grandparents were young adults who voted for FDR and their schooling ended at 8th grade. They had a lot of prejudices and misconceptions about the world. They voted for FDR not because they were geniuses, but because the alternative was Hoover.

The real difference -- and it's critically important to understand-- between then and now is that back then there was a system for selecting presidential candidates that was mostly run by elites, not the masses. Candidates were selected by party machines in the proverbial smoky back room. That process eliminated radical candidates and presented the populace with two mostly sane and reasonable, though still importantly different, choices.

Our problem today is that the system for nominating candidates, especially (apparently) in the Republican Party, has broken down, and deeply flawed people are able to become nominees.

One thing that has changed today in comparison to the past, is that many people at the top have no shame and seem to get away with lying as a way of life, It’s particularly nauseating in the digital age where you can replay footage or audio and clearly show the lie. The person lied through their teeth, but the Talking Heads sit there and make apologies for the person who clearly, lied.

  • Microsoft blew $8.5 billion on Skype only to spend 14 years killing it

Another boondoggle by Microsoft, they can do no wrong In the eyes of the Wall Street financial analysts, Microsoft spent $72.5 billion on content company Blizzard games (talent hired on a per game basis), or the fact that Microsoft wasted billions on OpenAI, to date Apple’s largest acquisition is only $3 billion dollars, Wall Street analysts, however, give Apple little credit for being frugal and very effective in their acquisitions over the years…. Non flashyTim Cook is very underrated as a CEO.

  • Microsoft blames Apple's interference for why the Xbox mobile store has failed to launch

So can Apple turn around and blame Microsoft for the lack of AAA games on the Mac? Is turn about fair play?

Wouldn't that be developers not wanting to waste resources developing for Macs due to Apple's proprietary software (Metal, Apples fault) and lack of market share making it not profitable?
Basically AAA games are not on Mac because of Apple and developers, mainly Apple, not Microsoft.

So if that’s true, Microsoft is now the most valuable tech company in the world what’s their excuse lack of money? I don’t care if Microsoft ever makes anything within the Apple ecosystems but it’s funny that Meta, Microsoft and Google want to camp out within the Mac ecosystems at will and then complain about it to government like Epic when things don’t go their way.

Microsoft is so bad at times they can’t even get to Apples Rosetta one level with Windows in their partnership with Qualcomm on Arm chips, you know those Surface laptops, but they always seem to get a free pass for their crap just like Intel.

  • Car makers reject CarPlay Ultra as an Apple overreach

    sflagel said:
it is ludicrous for a car manufacturer to give Apple access to all its car systems, which will invariably lead to Apple becoming the gatekeeper to the entire tech stack of a car. This in addition to the branding impact. CarPlay is not the end of evolution, for example, the music app is well on CarPlay. Audi music controls are much better.

There will be one car maker or two worldwide that will use Apple Carplay. Why because there’s fierce competition within the car manufacturing industry, remember when Apple Pay first came out, after designing it, Apple had to do the hard work of going around the world trying to get it established, later on when it became popular all the other financial institutions started to cry foul for their shortsightedness.

    History is repeating itself again.

  • Trump's new China trade deal is still bad for US business & consumers

All mainstream media: Anything orange man does bad, Democrats good.

A business deal is not a favorable one if it leaves you in a worse position than when you began. Is this the approach Donald “Taco Friday” Trump advocates for in “The Art of the Deal”? Once again, during the first 172-175 days of this administration, the Chinese and many other global entities are mocking the incompetence of the current administration. We require long-term planning, strategic thinking, and consistent oversight, but we currently lack these qualities.

For instance, consider the proposed US-China deal and the potential release of additional Defense Department funds. This move will not alleviate China’s grip on military-grade rare-earth magnets. Mining and extracting these materials will necessitate long-term planning, substantial financial resources, and extensive supply lines. This endeavor will probably span 16 years across four administrations and require the cooperation of all parties involved, despite their current political differences.

Furthermore, this situation highlights the extent of American infrastructure decay. Have you heard about the new Chinese-built airliner or the high-speed rail system being constructed in Thailand? The European and American responses have been to ignore the issue. This does not imply that all Chinese constructions are inherently superior. Instead, it is the iterative improvements, similar to Apple’s approach, that demonstrate their long range planning. Remember when Korean cars were not well-regarded in the mid-1980s? Today, they are widely praised and no longer elicit laughter.

For reference, the high-speed rail system in Thailand is expected to be completed before California and Nevada.

  • Apple sues Jon Prosser over iOS 26 leaks

That’s so-called friend of the Apple employee that guy ain’t no friend of yours if he gets you fired from a six figure per year job by accessing your phone without your knowledge? Would that possibly generate another suit by the former Apple employee? Against Jon Prosser and Michael Ramacciott for being fired, would you sue your ex-friend over damages from a six figure job lost and a career going down the toilet?

Car manufacturers are not going to give all their screens to Apple or want to reply on them for their onboard computing.

    It just won’t happen.

If Apple want to push this they need to partner with a manufacturer to make a reference vehicle.
For me, it was the right decision to not strive for Apple Car.

As I work in the car industry, I can tell that the car industry is a terrible business because it is just a low margin business.

I am pretty sure that Apple will find a compromise with the rest of OEMs.
Premium brands like BMW or Mercedes will limit or will not support Apple Car, but there are tons of others like Stellantis, Dacia etc., which have no capability of developing their own eco-system.
In time like Apple Watch, Apple Pay, or AirPods, Apple CarPlay will breakthrough because there will be one or two car companies across the world that will adopt it, All Apple has to do is keep iterating and improving it’s abilities……
