  • Lawsuit blames Apple's 'less safe' FaceTime implementation for fatal traffic accident

Apple doesn't hold the patent for an in-dash cutoff of FaceTime.

They do hold it for a handheld implementation, which is what the crux of the suit is about. Apple has the patent, they haven't used it in a fashion that would have prevented the crash.

FileVault protection on older Macs is useless? What do you say other than "Yikes"?
It's an issue, but not a giant day-to-day one. The timing attack is non-trivial to execute, is targeted, and if, like the article says, you maintain physical security of your Mac you'll be fine.

  • Rudy Giuliani says warrant illegal since agents already had data 'from the iCloud'

There is literally no reason for this to be an article on AI.  Because he used the term “iCloud” in his argument?   And the last three paragraphs of the article - general commentary on Apple’s work with government requests - have been covered, ad nauseam, in other pieces.

    Stay out of politics, please.
Since when has AI stayed out of politics. They usually just turn comments off. I would like to have seen AI go into more depth on what's actually stored on iCloud vs what's only on the iPhone. This would have been the perfect article for AI to present regardless of who owned the iPhone.

Speaking of Rudy, if he knows so much about an iPhone and iCloud, he should have taken precautions and not stored his backup and, maybe photos, on iCloud. Store them only on your Mac/PC and make sure they're encrypted.
They very nearly always start open, but when forum-goer behavior makes them no longer cost-effective to moderate, they get closed.

In regards to what's stored in iCloud, versus what's only on the iPhone -- there is a list in the piece. As it pertains to "app data" - this depends on the app in question, and there is no real way to list what's stored there by every individual app. As a general rule, if there is an "iCloud sync" option in the app, Apple holds that data and will provide it upon subpoena.

  • Reports are spreading about a very specific Apple Vision Pro front glass crack

LOL…this web site was recommending that people use cases that weren’t designed for the AVP to save some money. Whoops.
We still are. The cases cited here are using Apple's case.

This is an APPLEINSIDER top story?  What does this have to do with Apple? Are there not already enough websites spreading political division and hate?
Short answer: We can cover anything we'd like. Ink by the barrel and so forth.

Longer answer: Apple and Trump intersect in about 10 different ways. If you can't see the connection to Apple because, charitably, his sons decided to do this and license the name, launching in SEPTEMBER, you know, iPhone release season, while their father shit-talks Apple for not manufacturing in the US, while they at the same time try to pull a fast one about US manufacturing, I don't know what to tell you.

We do not require you to read everything we write. If you don't like something, move on to the next piece, or the 10 before that, or the 50,000 before that.

If there's hate to be had here, it's the Trump sons that are doing it in this case. Pointing out the lies is hardly that. Facts don't care about your feelings or political side.

  • New Vietnam trade deal means Apple will pay at least five times more in tariffs

HI gang, Mike here. Things have been pretty calm for the most part, but I want to be clear about one specific point here.

Attacks on the authors for any reason, up to and including "you aren't from the US" and discussions about the patriotism of the other author who, by the way, served for a decade in the US military, will not be tolerated.

    Speak to the issues.

  • Apple FineWoven case review: Not the leather replacement we were hoping for

A very substantial assumption of durability, or lack there of, in the review and a whole lot of whining sense of entitlement in the comments. Cases are an incredibly subjective matter but calling this new one cheap and questioning Apple’s development of it is laughable. You also don’t have to buy it, and quite a short memory we have- the leather case has been plagued with durability questions for a while.
Given how banged up these cases were at Apple Tyson's yesterday after being on display for three days, I'm comfortable with Andrew's assessment.

  • Actual US broadband penetration & speed falls far short of FCC claims

    steven n. said:
    This is the telling part:

“The blue-colored areas are U.S. counties where less than 15% of people are using the internet at a 25Mbps download speed, which is the FCC's definition of high-speed internet.”

The FCC judges by available. Microsoft judges by using. Two very different metrics. I would not expect The Verge’s sophomoric “journalism” to pick up on this.
The FCC considers a service block, which is about 100 square miles, "covered" if the ISPs report that one address has service that meets the 25/3 requirement.

The FCC judges by what the ISPs say, and it doesn't even have to be available beyond one address. Microsoft judges by use.

  • How U.S. states are using digital contact tracing to stop COVID-19

Speaking of being informed, this COVID app backbone is a funny place to draw the line.

I disagree, it's actually a pretty darn good place to draw the line.  Ever hear of the slippery slope?

So even if v1.0 of the COVID app is as squeaky clean as you describe it above, just wait for v2.0.

And already, there have been far too many anomalies regarding COVID to give the authorities the benefit of the doubt.  Remember how the lockdowns were only necessary until we "flatten the curve"...?  Yeah, how quaint.

Then just this past week the head of WHO said life, "may never" return to normal.

Meanwhile, doctors brave enough to speak out and dispute the official narrative from the likes of WHO and the CDC have subsequently lost their jobs and been deplatformed by Big Tech, including having their website yanked by Squarespace.  Then look how quickly the use of hydroxychloroquine became a political football...

So you smell a rat yet?

Anyway, to those who wish to download a contact tracing/tracking app thinking they're doing the world a favor, yeah, knock yourselves out.
Okay, then. How was the "slippery slope" NOT carriers selling location and private information to whoever asked? If you just turn on your phone and connect to any given ISP, particularly wireless, you are surrendering more personal and location data than this notification system ever sees.

If 2.0 is bad, then we'll talk about it. Today, this isn't it.

As far as the rest of your narrative, there's too much to unpack, and this isn't the appropriate venue.

Joe Biden needs to go. I am sorry but I am not usually political but this guy is ridiculous
This started two years into the Trump administration.
And it was dead when San Jose court decided for Apple but brought back when Biden appointed the socialist Kanter . Did you even read the article above?
Considering that I wrote it, yes, I did. The DoJ didn't stop after the trial. It may have slowed, but didn't stop.

Epic v. Apple was ruled on in September 2021. Kanter was appointed on November 2021.
I read up on Kanter after seeing  your article here. This is 100 percent Kanter, the guy  is a communist socialist if you read what he has wrote in past.

Anyways, you can defend Biden if you want to but I have a right to my position as well . Or do I?
Where do you get that I'm defending Biden? Neither the article nor my comment says that.

For somebody who says that they're not political, you're sure making this a political partisan issue, unnecessarily. Knock it off.
