  • HBO Max 'missed the mark' with update, restores native tvOS player

    jimh2 said:
Why do companies think they can out do a provided API? The developers must be generating billable hours.
In the case of HBO, it looks like they wanted data about user behavior that the Apple player does not provide.

  • Apple will crush the DoJ in court if Garland sticks with outdated arguments

Joe Biden needs to go. I am sorry but I am not usually political but this guy is ridiculous
This started two years into the Trump administration.
And it was dead when San Jose court decided for Apple but brought back when Biden appointed the socialist Kanter . Did you even read the article above?
Considering that I wrote it, yes, I did. The DoJ didn't stop after the trial. It may have slowed, but didn't stop.

Epic v. Apple was ruled on in September 2021. Kanter was appointed on November 2021.

You say that you're not usually political, but your comment history belies that somewhat. Turn down the rhetoric a bit. This is very clearly an issue on both sides of the aisle.

  • Apple supplier Pegatron says tariffs will mean third world-style shortages for US

    sdw2001 said:
Oh, look, calling his tariffs “nonsensical” and using scare quotes.  Shocker.
That's because they literally are nonsensical.

They aren't based on anything, they aren't reciprocal by any definition of the word, and the math that they used to derive them makes no sense at all.

And, worst of all, they injure US consumers more than they do anything at all to foreign interests.

  • Trump's new China trade deal is still bad for US business & consumers

All mainstream media: Anything orange man does bad, Democrats good.
Sure, I'll bite. How is US business paying 3x more in tariffs to import a product good, and where did the author say anything about Democrats? How is Apple paying almost a billion more IN THIS QUARTER to deal with the tariffs good?

If you want to argue the points, go ahead. Complaining about the author as a way of complaining about the points is logically fallacious.

  • Tim Cook may have met with Trump during WWDC to discuss second term priorities

Trump winning its a given at this point.

    The world needs it.
It's close, I agree, but your statement about it being "a given" is demonstrably false.

  • Man ludicrously blames Apple for his wife catching him communicating with prostitutes

I don't quite understand why the article had to be written with such smugness, especially because I doubt that the author has any knowledge about English law and English courts; nor what exactly the case is or under what law section it is being held.  I assume it will be under UK advertising regulation which can be very strict!

We all know Apple can be quite "literal" in its claims; see for example how it advertises Tags in Notes, but conveniently omits that you cannot add them to Notes created on Share Sheets. In the case, the customer probably did not understand which and how messages get sync-deleted, and to be fair, most people don't understand, including me and a number of people on this thread. Some messages and txt seem to disappear immediately, and some do not. It seems to depend on whether it's an iMessage or a Txt, and whether the iPhone is on the same WiFi network or not. Apple Support pages are not clear about this.

But maybe the Author of this blog (that's really what it is) could explain it, that would be fab.

(I do expect Apple may get asked to clarify its messaging but they won't have to compensate anyone).
The UK lawyers we consulted about it during the process of writing were pretty clear that this guy has no chance.

FTA: "We, and the lawyers we spoke with before we published this story, are surprised that a reputable law firm would even consider taking this up."

  • Trump Mobile's made-in-US iPhone 17 competitor is really made in China

  • Trump Mobile's made-in-US iPhone 17 competitor is really made in China

Interesting. Reporting indicates it's not actually being done by the Trump organization, but rather they are licensing the name to another MVNO organization. So The Trump organization is not that involved other than licensing the name? We will see what information comes out. Not a fan of this move at all. Can't really trust a trhid party with the kinds of claims being made. Recipe for PR disaster. Nobody wants politicians THIS involved in their daily life, even if it's in name only. Doesn't matter what side of the aisle you're on. And that gold color... not good.

on the plus side (I guess), customer service is in the USA.
Eric Trump made the rounds this morning celebrating this, so I don't think "just licensing" is the escape that the Trump Organization is looking for.

  • Russian kangaroo court fines Apple two seconds of profit over News row

    spheric said:
If this was a magistrate's court, and they were fined for violating a law that the court upheld, that's a formal institution, not a "kangaroo court".

Calling it a "kangaroo court" blurs the line between reporting and opinion piece in the very headline, in a way that doesn't even reflect the actual happenings.

Not a hallmark of respectable journalism.
You're welcome to believe what you want. However, the Russian law doesn't apply to aggregators like Apple News, and the like. Apple is not the creator of the content, and by the law on the books, is not liable for it.

The court found Apple guilty anyway. Seems pretty clear.

  • How and where Trump's new tariffs affect Apple

I still can’t believe people voted for this moron. It’s sad to see the pathetic joke this once great country has become.
For many people through out the world, who understand the the risks of the current worldwide Marxist takeover, your country is seen as once again leading a global recovery.
I stand corrected. The bit about Apple's $500 billion being new investments wasn't the dumbest thing I've read all day.

    This is.
