Apple shuts down Epic Games developer account
GeorgeBMac said:seanismorris said:I wonder what Epic is thinking...
I get they are frustrated with the 30% “Apple Tax” but their actions make no sense.
I'm thinking that for them, they can only win. They can't lose:Their game is to break down the walls of the walled garden.-- If they succeed then they win-- if they don't succeed then they go back to obeying the rules -- and have lost very little (but gained a bunch of free publicity!)
But they look like fools for starting this mess.

Compared: M1 Max 16-inch MacBook Pro versus Mac Pro
Appleish said:I know that there are a lot of use cases out there for some to need the new Intel Mac Pro, but knowing the M1 MBPs were coming, how many could have just waited.
All those Mac Pros out there can't be upgraded to Apple Silicon. What a waste. Flame away...Where I work 9 Edit rooms networked on Fiber channel work just fine on 2019 Mac Pros. It will be 5 years before any are replaced, so no waste. All producers use MacBooksbut that's their decision to make to upgrade and their wallet. -
Mac Studio 2023 review: You probably want this, and not the Mac Pro
coolfactor said:newisneverenough said:Probably this is common knowledge, but why has Apple made so much Not user upgradable? Is it to sell more new machines ? Is it to eliminate technical problems when users upgrade? Conceptually, I want more control of the thing I pay thousands for.
Apple likely has data that tells them that most users never upgrade a machine, so the extra cost involved in making it upgradeable is just a waste and adds unnecessary cost for everyone involved.
By building a highly-integrated machine, you can deliver optimal performance for users across the full spectrum, and the most common upgrades can be achieved by plugging in external devices.
Apple views their devices as "appliances". You aren't pulling apart your microwave and doing upgrades on that, or your flatscreen TV. You expect them to "just work" for what you bought them for at the time.
Well that's not usable I work. 9 edit stations 2 graphic rooms. All connected to a 32 gig fiber channel switch that's connected to a 48 drive raid and LTO backup in master control. So we still have to use the Mac Pro Tower config. -

'Verifiably untrustworthy' Epic Games iOS app store plans in EU killed by Apple
avon b7 said:9secondkox2 said:avon b7 said:This doesn't look good for Apple on the face of it.
Apple has the last word on 'trust'?
I can't see that going down well in the EU.
I suppose Epic will accuse Apple of discrimination.
We'll see. It’s not like epic didn’t breach the contract. End of.
epic going on to criticize apple is a smokescreen. Being critical doesn’t award you what you lost due to illegal activity.Epic violated their contract and paid the price. Inciting a mob doesn’t change that. Epic can be mad, but only at themselves. Shameful really.Goodbye epic. Good luck on your own.
If Epic brought the same case to an EU court there is no guarantee it would see the same result.
As for violating a contract clause, that doesn't mean much. The presence of a clause doesn't make it legal. A clause itself can be challenged in court.
Like I said, we'll see.
I suppose Epic will try to challenge the move.
By that logic, no contract would be worth a damn .

Apple Silicon Mac Pro debut finally ends transition away from Intel processors
zimmie said:ARM Mac Pro, including rackmount. Nailed it, multiple times.
$1k more expensive, lower RAM ceiling, and no word on MPX compatibility (they aren't offered as options when ordering). Disappointing, but not exactly surprising. They probably only released it because they plan to use the rackmount version themselves for Xcode Cloud, as I said.
But there are 2 double wide 16X PCie 4 slots. So all you need is drivers for any graphic cards. There are no MPX power connections, so you will need to use the AUX power connections with cables.

iVANKY FusionDock Max 1 review: Twice the Thunderbolt bandwidth, twice the price
Mike Wuerthele said:killroy said:Using the term twice the bandwidth is playing with fire. This is not a Thunderbolt 5 dock.
But you would have to use two thunderbolt ports on the Mac. And those ports would have to be independent. The last Mac with independent ports I have seen is a Mac mini Intel. Each CPU on KVM would only be giving you 40 Gb per second.
