Lock screen changes in iOS 16 an 'act of love,' says Craig Federighi
Apple once again shows everyone how it’s done, even when it comes to less critical things like customization. Custom Android homescreens have always looked like absolute trash. It takes skill and deep thinking to provide the user with customization options, but in a way that provides a high likelihood that the end result will actually look good. -
False Flag: Social media erupts over Apple's predictive text Palestine blunder
SGilbert said:One hour after this was posted, I tried it and no flag came up! Apple must have fixed it, thankfully!
Thankfully? Were you shaking in fear and rage at seeing a Palestinian flag? Why are you so thankful? Who did this hurt, beyond the fake and predictable outrage and insane attacks of "anti-semitism" which these days seem to cover literally anything that extremist Israeli shills and propagandists disagree with? How often do you type "Jerusalem"? God forbid you see a flag which acknowledges the existence of a population which has been brutalized, occupied, besieged, and massacred for decades. Don't worry, you'll survive the tiny digital flag. Type in Israel or Tel Aviv if you're yearning for an Israeli flag. It will be ok. -
Apple Maps overhaul includes time-based directions, more detailed maps
Pretty crazy how Apple Maps has outclassed Google maps in many capacities (note I didn't say EVERY capacity - but many) in such a short amount of time, while this is one of Google's key products and they had a massive head start. Google maps still has a POI advantage, but in my usage Apple maps is superior in every single other category. Usability, performance, map quality, aesthetics, sound quality, interface, smoothness of turn by turn, etc. I rely on it daily and I can't remember the last time it failed me. Very impressive work. The new in-house mapping data Apple now uses is gonna pay massive dividends. -

Millions of apps were denied by Apple in 2024 amid fraud crackdown
nubus said:MisterKit said:Not to worry. Open market app stores can't wait to host the fraudsters.
Go to any DMV "service location" to bask in the experience of no free markets. Visit any USPS office to enjoy the short queues and customer focused products delivered (or not). Having no competition is great if you're too lazy to compete. I say we're ready for a Family Store for apps, an American Apps store, and even The Sleazy Store.
Apple isn't a monopoly for running their own fucking store on their own devices. Just like how retailers aren't monopolies for having other storefronts operating within their own stores for free. This has more to do with the fact that Apple gives a shit about the user experience, which is critical for the continued success of its products, than "crony capitalism". The amount of people that actually give a damn about having multiple appstores on their devices is almost non-existent. It's just something pushed by companies like Epic and Spotify, for their own selfish needs.
The competition that Apple has are other devices, other platforms, other apps, and other ecosystems. You don't need multiple appstores on a device for "competition". Apple is "too lazy to compete" with whom, exactly? And compete how? You honestly believe 3rd party appstores can have a better user experience than native ones? Barely anyone fucking uses them on Android, and there's a reason for that. Customers don't want them.

New iPad mini 7 gets A17 Pro, Apple Intelligence
charlesn said:Thank you, Apple--I guess--for saving me money again with another mediocre upgrade. STILL with the dated looking fat bezels? A bump to the near useless 6E when Wifi 7 is already here and supported by Apple in other products? No landscape camera?
So Wifi 6E is now suddenly "useless" cause 7 exists? What % of users will actually be able to tell the difference? 0.001%? Has almost zero bearing on vast majority of people, so your comment is utterly absurd in its extremism. As for bezels, thinner ones can negatively affect the user experience considering the size of the screen and how you hold it. As for the camera, again, most people won't give a damn what orientation it's in. Love how you ignore the mountain of other actual meaningful improvements in order to proclaim its mediocrity and make your big statement. Sounds like you have zero reason to upgrade, if those are your nitpicks. -
EU is reportedly going to fine Apple over failure to comply with the Digital Markets Act
Love how trolls and scam artists like Epic and Spotify CEOs are basically dictating EU's actions irt Apple. They just fucking whine, and EU takes action. It's absolutely absurd. Apple has taken MASSIVE actions and made deep, immense changes in in its software, spent billions of dollars in order to offset this with additional security requirements, in order to accommodate everything the EU demanded, and its still not enough. What a corrupt institution. -
AAPL crumble: stock hit again, as White House clarifies 145% China tariff rate
MassiveAttack said:Tim Cook is -so called- a logstics genius guy.
Let´s see how he can handle this situation.
Why the fuck is he "so-called"? How many fucking decades does someone need to prove their mastery in a field for someone like you to give them a shred of credit for it? He's more than proven that he's a logistics genius at his time at Apple.
That doesn't mean he can magically use logistical mastery to get out of this one. You can't build a new factory tomorrow, or next month, or next year. And most phones are still manufactured in China for a myriad of valid reasons. You can try shifting a % of production, but there's limits, and you can't replace China. If these tariffs go on for long, there is little that Tim, or anyone can do to stem the upcoming bloodbath.
