**update** I just discovered that Xbench 1.2 is "re-calibrated 100 point baseline to a 2.0 GHz G5 running Tiger." That's why my results were so low. On 1.1.3, I got 273.16. One Problem resolved! I'm still wondering why both 1.1.3 and 1.…

I installed a 120GB, 7200rpm , 8MB cache HD into my Blue Dalmatian iMac G3 500. Super increase in performance and absolutely no issues.

alliancep.s.i ... Owning any computer involves some troubleshooting. Overall, Macs (in my experience) are significantly less work than PCs. If you're debating, purchase from from a place that has a good return policy (like Best Buy.) Make sure …

mikef ... She "apologized", but continued in the same tone. She was the type of person that would say something that (on paper) is polite and appropriate, but her delivery had a real edge. She said she would email me a list of "approved" monitors,…

Hmmm. I was wondering about the firewire cord. It's not got any signs of damage, but it could be the cause. I've got an external firewire drive and it works off of both ports. I don't know if that fact rules out the two ports on my iMac, but .…

Nope, it's not a question of the hard drive being awake. When the hard drive spins down, it makes absolutely no noise. When I'm surfing the net or checking mail, it makes a soft hum and has several seconds of writting/seeking (chirps and clicks.…

All batteries die - Apple or otherwise. Rechargeable batteries (cellphones/iPods/laptops) all have a set number of charges and discharges. It all depends on how you use them. Check out: http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html There is…

YIKES!!!! I zapped the PRAM and now the computer won't start!! It now chimes, displays the grey screen with the grey apple and nothing else! HELP! (Luckily I always backup, but I'm on a flight at 4pm today!)

*cough* http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/supportlist_e.html *cough* Scroll to the bottom. There is an eMac spanning hack, but I've never tried it and I'm not recommending you do either.

I missspoke in my last post. My grandparents will never burn cds or dvds. They'll never ever need a G5. Smell is a concern - never really thought of that.

Good question - personally I'd like an iMac G5, but ... 1) It's cheap. 2) It runs Panther just fine. 3) Grandparents don't need a G5 to burn a DVD.

Updated the $600 CAN to $805 USD. Are you guys sure about selling something with a ethernet port that hates everything and a battery that needs to be replaced?

Hmmm. I think it's "too" real for me these days PS. It's true that it's the inside that counts, but "the insides" on this little guy are all over my desk. 1) Have an 80GB firewire drive already - unworkable to only have 10GB. 2) If I want to b…

BUT I don't want to face the facts!!!! I wish I had taken that battery out of the laptop and kept it in the desk!!! I thought I was babying that thing by not using it - I'd only take it off the charger "if I had to." I hate learning thes…

I went to the terminal and received ... "IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=1125,"Amperage"=1200,"Current"=1125," Voltage"=16432,"Flags"=838860805}) This is after it took 1hr and 40 minutes to recharge back to 100% (the estimate in the menu said 6…

Well here's something ..... I fully charged the battery (in a record 29 minutes) and the rebooted zapping the PRAM three times. I then shut down, reset the PMU and logged in. I managed to squeeze 63 minutes out the battery using the lowest bright…
