  • M4 Mac mini review three months later: the perfect headless Mac

When talking about the plain M4 Mac mini my biggest issue is getting a monitor that compares to the M4 iMac. Here's the list prices for a comparable M4 mini and M4 iMac:

Mac mini 10/10/16GB/256GB $599 (Pro option 12/16/24GB/512GB $1399) (no keyboard with TouchID ($149) or mouse ($79) on any Mac mini configuration ($228 extra))
iMac 10/10/16GB/256GB $1499 (no Pro option)

What 4.5K 24" Retina display (4480-by-2520 resolution at 218 pixels per inch with support for 1 billion colors) with 12Mpixel camera (1080p HD video recording), 500 nit, P3, true tone, high-fidelity six-speaker system with force-cancelling woofers, Studio-quality three-mic array with high signal-to-noise ratio and directional beam-forming, 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports (M4 mini has 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports) is available for the Mac mini? Don't give me a display that's almost as much as the iMac has for $672 ($900 less $228 kbd/mouse)? I know there are 4K monitors less than this but most of these spread their pixels across a 32" or more diagonal. In other words, the pixel density isn't as good. Apple's 27" Studio Display is $1599 or $100 more than a complete 24" M4 iMac.

I was thinking about getting a Mac mini but now that I do the numbers, an iMac still is the best cost. I know I could use a third-party keyboard and mouse or an old Apple keyboard and mouse but Apple's Touch ID keyboard is worth the extra $50. Of course it still upsets me that Apple is overcharging for memory and storage but I'd simply use my OWC Express 4M2 (loaded with 8TB of NVMe storage) as much as I can. Thankfully Apple actually upped the memory to 16GB, which was nice.

  • iPad Air update rumored to get M3 upgrade, not M4

I thought Apple wasn’t going to use any M3 chips anymore and the M3 wasn’t even going to be made. The M3 was a stopgap that was EOL’d practically after it was released.

  • PSA: Text scammers resorting to new tactics to get you to enable phishing links

I feel Apple should be proactive and reverse obvious Scam messages, attacking the sender with malware from Apple. Why should users have to try and figure out if a text message is spam, Apple's Message software should be able to block it without the user needing to do anything. I'm sure there's some honest hackers who could come up with the software necessary to attack the sender. It wouldn't bother me if some halfway honest texts were sent and got deleted. My Junk Mail folder has been hammered lately with multiple junk emails sent at the same time. I have seven Mail Rules with about 30 junk mail addresses that run constantly. It's time junk mail and spam text is treated as attacks on people, with the FBI (or similar) investigating and arresting national and international spammers and hackers.

  • UK trial over Apple's App Store fees seeks $1.83B fine

This ridiculous EU and UK bullying nonsense will absolutely stop under the Trump Administration. Biden did nothing to protect our companies. Beat Apple with innovation not with govt bullying. Stop whining and get to work.
Read Chasm's comment above. trump won't do anything to help Apple unless he receives a huge payment. The EU and UK might actually go after Apple and trump, forcing Apple to pay even more money. The Biden administration's DOJ did as much as they could do to protect Apple. The EU, and now the UK, has been trying to steal as much Apple products as possible, forcing Apple to open up its system, which it shouldn't have to do. As for the EU and UK complaining about fees Apple charges to run a business, that's simply garbage. Every company charges fees for whatever their product is.

  • Indonesia wants more than $1 billion from Apple to lift iPhone ban, welcomes Huawei with o...

There comes a point where Apple is going to have to bite the bullet and flip the Indonesian government the bird and just pull completely out of the country until saner heads prevail.

It’s one thing to require some investment, but constantly moving the goal posts is outright bribery at this point.
I agree. Apple doesn't have to sell products to every country. I'm sure the USA supports Indonesia with plenty of money. There's no reason Apple needs to invest in this country. Goes the same with the other countries demanding major investments to get Apple products.
