Apple Silicon switch could lead to lower-cost Mac lineups, analyst says
Apple already has amortized a lot of the development costs of an ASi Mac because of all the development work done on iOS devices. Intel CPUs are expensive so Apple can remove that cost from the final price. Yes, Apple has been spending money on developing a Mac version but they aren’t starting from scratch, they’re simply enhancing the existing SoC designs they already have. We’ll see what happens tomorrow but I’m confident Apple is ready to start their next evolution and won’t be greedy. -
Users can buy iCloud storage in addition to Apple One plans, for up to 4TB
tomowa said:I had the 2TB plan iCloud storage plan. I just subscribed to the Apple One Premier. Now my iCloud storage shows I have 4TB.
My iCloud 2TB storage plan shows it is still an active subscription, and it does not state that it will be assimilated into the Apple One Premier subscription.
So what will happen, if I cancel the existing 2TB iCloud? Does everything dissapear? Then rebuilt on the new Premier 2TB plan?
There is a link in the Apple One Premier subscription confirmation email I received, Learn what happens to your iCloud storage plan when you sign up for Apple One, but the link is to a non existent page https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211784. -
Early 2021 Apple Silicon iMac said to have 'A14T' processor
I know Apple has been moving towards an almost sealed computer enclosure for some time but have to wonder if they will continue this process or, hopefully, allow the use of SoC sockets at least in the beginning so newer, faster, more powerful SoCs can be added to what might be a basic logic board that only contains IO, WiFi, and ??? circuits and logic chips. If almost everything of value is in/on the SoC then making this component removal, interchangeable and able to be secured in a safe when not in use would be an interesting design change, especially for corporate and government users but also for the rest of us.
Could this even be done? Looking at the iPhone 12, the SoC takes up a large portion of one side of the logic board while all the other logic chips are associated with support features. I could see many of these staying reasonably consistent on future Macs. Apple could include important chips on the same SoC socket (or two) thereby allowing for updates without replacing everything.

DOJ files antitrust lawsuit against Google's search business

DOJ files antitrust lawsuit against Google's search business
The problem with search engines is they're not the only way Google and others get information. Running the latest Safari for macOS, here's a comparison of Duck-Duck-Go security essentials and Apple's built-in tracker (notice the security upgrade AI changed recently):
Notice, almost every website still tries to use Google's google-analytics as well as doubleclick, tracking everything you do not matter which search engine you use. I don't have to have DDG's privacy essentials to run since I have Safari's tracker but it also checks other security things, including the unknown privacy practices AI and others use.
