iOS 10 Messages gain rich links, 3X bigger emojis, bubble effects & third-party app integration
Hurl! While it's nice to see Apple leveraging iMessage and locking people in to only talking with other iMessage users, if anyone I know uses this new obnoxiousness more than once I'm going to have to block their number. Looks perfect for the 14 year old girl demographic.
(The collaborative apps looked like there could be some real potential, though.) -
Apple brings coding to the iPad with Swift Playground
I guess I'm old and jaded. As a professional software developer I find it really hard to believe coding on the iPad will produce anything "real". Maybe it will give people a taste of breaking a problem down into steps, working with picky syntax, and introduce some other basic software production concepts. But compared to XCode, Eclipse, NetBeans, IntelliJ, and other "real" development environments, Swift Playground seems almost delusional. -
LinkedIn's iOS Developer Community cancels WWDC watch party after Microsoft purchase
How does that make any sense? LI should be platform & product neutral. Why should who owns the company influence what its special interest groups do? At this point everything should be arranged and ready to go. Canceling just causes pain to everyone involved. I find it difficult to believe the cancelation was related to the MS acquisition. -
Cupertino mayor accuses Apple, responsible for nearly 20% of the city's tax revenue, of not paying
"fund the transport infrastructure needed to deal with congestion created by the company, as well as other businesses in the area"
This should have been thought through when the Spaceship was proposed. Either they didn't think it through, or whatever they planned is now felt to be inadequate. Someone has to pay for roads, & bridges, & public transportation, etc.
I suspect there is a large voter block who see Apple and the other big companies as cash cows to be milked for all they can get. Why should I, Little Old Lady Jane Citizen, pay taxes when corporate giant Apple is sitting right there? Pandering to those voters could be a profitable political play for the Mayor. -
Apple, others urge presidential candidates to support Trans-Pacific Partnership, address government
No. No. No.
The TPP may be good for multinational corporations, but it is bad for the country and its citizens.
