'Strong action' is coming if the EU doesn't like Apple's App Store concessions
9secondkox2 said:Apple did as asked. Done. They don’t have to give everything away. That’s counter to business, period. It’s not the EUs job to micromanage an American private sector company. They’d better be careful. Apple may decide to make a stronger reaction. Then life in Europe would suck pretty badly.
I suggest going after German automakers. I used to work for BMW and they “serialize” components to vehicles in exactly the same manner Apple does with secure components. You can’t take parts from
used/wrecked BMWs and use them to repair other vehicles. New components have to be bought & installed through BMW dealers only.
Right to Repair is different than the DMA, but it’s still something the EU is also going to force companies like Apple to support. If Apple has to abide by Right to Repair then BMW, Mercedes and Audi damn well also have to abide. Especially considering the substantially higher cost to repair a vehicle vs a phone or laptop. -
Who should stay on and who should leave the EU App Store
The fact those idiots at Spotify and Epic are whining so much just shows Apple has done something right.
it boggles the mind that Spotify, the worlds largest music streaming service by far (and more of a monopoly in music than Apple is in smartphones) doesn’t have to abide by the DMA. Any artist that wants to be on Spotify has to agree to their terms. That’s the very definition of a gatekeeper.
One interesting fact is that developers who create a 3rd party App marketplace (store) can’t use it for their own Apps. They have to accept submissions from other developers who might want to use their store. So Meta can’t open a Meta Store that ONLY has their Apps. -
Apple's flavor of RCS won't support Google's end-to-end encryption extension
Apple basically said “fuck you” to Google.
I’ve repeatedly said Apple should counter Google’s shame campaign by announcing they’ll support RCS when Google opens up their RCS APIs for everyone. Including competitors like WhatsApp or Telegram.
Google has their own RCS APIs in Android but Samsung is the only one allowed to use them. Developers have asked and Google has done nothing to allow other Apps to implement RCS via their system and use E2EE.
So Apple did one better and said they’ll work with standards bodies to improve RCS.
Now Google’s hopes of a messaging duopoly are finished.

M3 Max benchmarks show Mac Pro performance in a MacBook
soundsinmotion said:I have the last intel MacBook Pro from late 2019. Spent almost $4000 on it. Unfortunately can’t justify upgrading for thousands more when mine works great still.
The difference in performance and battery life are game changers. My 2019 MBP used to get hot and the fans would spool up as soon as I did anything more taxing than browsing the Internet. I never got anywhere near a day of battery life without having to plug in.
My M2 Max is not only much faster, but I rarely hear the fans and I still have 40% battery after a day of heavy usage.
The upgrade is worth it. -
